Wah and Buffer or Wah with buffered bypass

Post by The4455 »

I have a 1972 Vox King Wah that does the typical feedback thing with fuzz. I tried the Boss pedal in between as a buffer which is okay, but I'm thinking I should just buy a buffer.

That being said I want to true bypass the wah and found a 3pdt mounted buffered bypass pcb that I'm considering using. Will this fix the problem or do I need a separate buffer?

Said PCB:

There is also this, also from Guitar PCB

Any other ideas would be much appreciated. :thumb:

I think you need a buffer specifically designed for a wah, like this: http://www.foxroxelectronics.com/FoxroxWahRetrofit.html. Area 51 also does one.
Those old King Wahs are very cool and personally I'd leave it as is, but going true bypass is easy, as is adding a buffer, and both are reversible, so…

I hear what you're saying, the pedal effects the tone even when off but is also part of the tone as well.

I also have radio interference sometimes coming through the wah pedal, grounding issue?

^ Sounds like it might be. Although some folks around here would KILL for a treadle-controlled radio interference pedal. :thumb:
