I like the Rhythm Wolf; the build is very solid and you get those "analog" drum sounds many are shooting for; the only downsides are the tuning issues for the bass and the "loudness" of the unit. A tuning tool is available for download and if you pay through a mixer you can "fix" the volume issue. If you apply FX it only gets better. And another thing, raising the filter resonance on the bass the drops volume quite a bit making a mixer that much more important.crochambeau wrote:What's your take on the Rhythm Wolf? It was so universally lambasted when it came out I couldn't help but lust after one.
I love the fact that drum machine talk has resulted in a conjoined thread.

Maschine is one of the best things to happen to me. I mostly record and write at home and it's turned into my sketch pad for coming up with ideas and arranging. I also use an Arturia SparkLE to switch things up a little bit. When I play out and want to use my loops I load them up onto my JamMan Stereo instead of dragging a computer, interface, and Maschine along just to use them as a playback device.

I am really interested in this to use with sequences and clip launching. Although the machine has a really awesome interface, basically because it's a colorful MPC

Sigh, I just want a good multi tracks recorder that lets me do sampling things to it like slicing and such. I'm so adverse to Ableton because I always get distracted/I want to be able to work away from my computer area and go where all of my music equipment is.
My hope right now is that Zoom/Alesis/etc makes a more modern portastudio type of deal, the ones out right now (well, since the last time I checked) were godawful.

I guess that's the thing with you, my computer is connected to everything so I have to be infront of the computer to play anything essentially. If you want that then an MPC 1000, or MachineDrum would be my choice. Octatrack is lame as just a drum machine, Tempest is cool but has a very specific sound palette, Rytm is interesting but the pads feel like shit and the analog sound isn't that much special.

Re: recommend me a drum machine
So I just got the TR8 today, and at first I thought I was only able to have a full 16 step pattern and was kinda bummed. & then I found the last step button which lets me choose less, which made me happy but was still a little bummed it didn't work the way active step does on the Volca. & then I realized you can have both A & B patterns at different step lengths and run them consecutively. Now I am no longer bummed, but excited.
I haven't gotten a chance to really dig into it yet, but first impressions are good.
I want to get a WMD Acoustic Trauma stat, though.

Thnxbby
I'm really excited to get home from work and dive into it deeper. I was able to get some good stuff going right out of the box but learned my way around some of the functions is gonna take some time.
Also I got Delay mode 2 oscillating (just before going crazy) over a beat yesterday and it sounded so cool, I don't know what kind of modulation that is but it sounds really cool in that context.
