Which is their original price. The Anti-nautilus is $300 and that's because of the insane amount of work he puts into it.
But he refused to let anyone else do it because he wants to do it right, can't blame him.

Re: Anti-nautilus, what's up?
Sorry, I've been preoccupied/stressed out by other things.
And alternatives have been coming onto the market.
I'm an artist by trade. Electrical engineering and programming are things I've learnt on my off time.
And you probably don't want to hear this from me, but if I'm completely honest I'm really tired of the stress that's involved with making pedals in any quantity. More than a couple times this year and last I felt like shutting the whole thing down (I'm not, though, so please dont spread rumours). I built 3 one-offs this year and have had huge problems with all of them. In the latest one, it took me 3 months to solve. An earlier one, the mechanical sun delay, actually stopped working a couple months ago for no reason. It took weeks of head-scratching, because I'm no engineer by trade, fixing stuff doesn't come logically. I finally found the problem, I had ommited a part in the design, error in translating my schematic into working pcb. And you know what? THE PEDAL NEVER SHOULD HAVE WORKED IN THE FIRST PLACE! That video I made, where it's actually working as intended, it shouldn't have been working! That takes a lot out of you. I work on designs and this kind of illogical crap pops up all the time. I mentally throw stuff against the wall when I find the solution. And I ask myself why I bother with so much of this.
I find pleasure in experimenting. Designing something, and building a couple. But making many identical builds, *and* managing/supervising having others build or partially build stresses me out more than it should. I'm not really cut out for "mass production". People have helped me giving me advice on how I could mass-produce stuff, but the more I hear about it, the more I feel it's just impossible for me to wrap my head around. For other people, it's super intuitive to do it this way, not for me.
At the start of last year, I really thought I could squeeze out another dozen or so of these in 2015! But I didn't, which happens when you have a lot of other things on your mind. Such is the life of a hobbyist.
I'm on vacation right now. A couple months ago I might've thought I'd use this time to make half a dozen nautilus, but right now I'm just taking it easy. I need to recharge my batteries after a personally tough 2015, and if I'm realistic, probably won't build anything other than a one-off or two this vacation.
I'm a hobbyist. I'm no engineer or programmer, certainly nowhere close to full time. It's just side-knowledge that I've used on pedals and been somewhat lucky to form into neat designs.
Eventually I'm going to update my page/site, with clearly what it is I do. And that people should just wait for them as they come, whenever they come, or look at alternatives by other builders. I'm no earthquaker, or mtl assembly, or seppuku fx. I'm just a guy that doesn't want to work on this particular hobby that often, lately. It's just that. Maybe I should have thought twice about attaching a 'name' to these builds however many years ago it was. Maybe that's creating a sense that there's a company behind them when there really isn't.
Because to me, taking deposits is like being in debt, which I absolutely cannot do. Because I can't predict or guarantee when I'll actually be able to ship. I'd hate to take somebody's money, say "yeah you'll get it in 3 months", then deliver in 12. That sucks. Best not to accept any money, and ask for people to just wait for them. They're just pedals, not a vaccine or cure for a disease.sssweatyauraaa wrote:I'm just wondering why as a builder, the Sonic Crayon guy doesn't just take deposits over the course of a few weeks or months, then get pcb's made, parts procured and do bigger runs. I guess he has more important things to do. I'm guessing he's a programmer or engineer by trade and the money to be had versus time/effort spent on building pedals probably doesn't compare to his day job. Just a thought.

It's more complicated than that. I don't think I can handle 'supervising' bigger batches made by others, because so much more is at stake when I screw up.Inconuucl wrote:Which is their original price. PS. You're actually a little bit like Seppuku FX.

Your design/code is original enough that you can always sell an anti nautilus kit, with the addendum that any Fucking up is our problem. 8DDD
