I was listening to the WTF? with Keith Richards last night and he was talking about going to the 5-string Tele and tuning in open G and how great all those ringing strings are.

Like a lot of people that came of age in the early 90's that also play guitar I went through a stage of trying to find my magic alternate tuning and find my inner-Sonic Youth but just never really bonded with one. About 10 years ago I got into randomly tuning my acoustic to some open chords and that was cool but haven't really given it much of a chance again on electric.

I think I'm going to give open tunings another shot but this time specifically for drone. Do any of you guys use any open tunings for drone and if so what are your favorite tunings or intervals? I have a lot of guitars I'm not really using much so it'll give me an excuse to tune them all to something different and see what sticks.

One easy and fun one I nicked from Dead Meadow is EBADGD, tuning the A up and the E down one step, respectively.

Then steal some Celestial-era ISIS riffs and play them at a quarter speed with whatever interesting chord shapes you feel like throwing over the top. 2ez.

I don't play much guitar, but when I do... I use drop or open based on one step lower than whatever standard is for that instrument. The other thing I do a lot on guitar or bass is base the tuning on a chord pattern that I might start out with to then use as the droning tonal structure and than be able to play over the top. and.. sometimes I just start tuning randomly until I like whatever it sounds like.

:!!!: :!!!: :!!!: BIG THNGS A HAPPENIN DrO)))ne brothas!!! Also big post warning...

Been go through periods of Drone well Im on an up swing...Ive been listening more into drone/loop/noise stuffs lately, not so much sunn O))) style with guitars and such, more electric synth based.

My fav right now is Retribution Body, check em out.
https://retributionbody.bandcamp.com/album/aokigahara

Well a couple nights ago when I couldn't sleep and while listening to some random drone on band camp I impulse purchased this Rucci Electronics Maximal Drone thingy. Anyone have one/heard them? Can't wait to get it and just start some shit!
http://www.handmadeelectronicinstrument ... mal-drone/

Well with this thingy Im gonna start my own one man drone project, which Ive kinda been doing with my TGWN project I've posted here in the past before but thats not something Id ever replicate live, thats my own personal in-the-moment capture, once and done stuff.
The latest with that can be found here...

What I want to do with this project provide live Frequency Therapy...my two piece bass and drum band, Galactic Hatchet aims to do this somewhat, but we also riff a lot. I want to dive deeper and solely focus on the droning of dense frequencies, I want to soak people with sound, vibrate their eyeballs, numb their mind, hopefully making them feel something, anything.

Oh also, then last night I was thinking about what effects/rig I should use with the Maximal Drone to obtain such dense frequency soakage. My plan...Max Drone > some sort of fuzz > Cathedral > TR2 > Lone Wolf Backhand > Ditto > Bifet > 800 Booster > 810TX and Folded 18, something like that outa do it. When I thought about what fuzz would be best for noise making, a fuzz I got rid of a long time ago popped into my mind, the Dwarfcraft Great Destroyer. That uncontrollable sonic beast would be perfect, all it did was make dense fuzz noise, clicks, stutters, screeches and wails. So I said fvck it, and went, found and bought a cheap OG version on reverb.

Name I'm still pondering, Id like to have a play off of the word frequency, something like FreaQ? I don't know.

Like I said lots happening, once I have something recorded Ill be sure to post it here.

Cool! thanks! Hopefully these recent purchases keep me droning, and motivate me to make this actually happen.

That Maximal Drone guy is out of Oakland. I've been looking at his pedals and things for awhile. I've been thinking about getting a drone specific box of some sorts. My Moog Sub 37 can essentially do that since it has a latch function.

In other drone gear news...I bought the Old Blood Noise Dark Star reverb and it's got a hold button on there which is really cool for droning.
