So I have been going hard at studying, building and learning more and more about circuits and have decided that I'm gonna try selling a couple of my own creations. I have my pedal company name and logo and I have been looking up ways to trademark, copyright and protect my creations. It is really expensive here to get everything registered legit in Canada and was wondering if any builders had trademarked or copyrighted their stuff? what's a good way of going about this? should I even worry about it? thank you so much!
I could write you a book on this but I will keep it simple. get a logo and a name that are not common words. get a color scheme, features, build style packaging etc.. that is unique to only you. keep paper color copies of all your websites and printed marketing materials. that is all you need to defend a trademark. you do not need to register your trademark in the united states. you just need to defend it consistently when it is infringed. the copyright is limited in what can be copyrighted. some works you can just say copyright and it makes it copyright. some you need to purchase a copyright and some can not be copyrighted at all. you lose your copyright and or trademark the second you fail to defend it in court or through letters to the offender.
