i found a Velcroar on Reverb!

i had one with the red-themed art which i dearly loved but had to sell during my life clearance sale c.2013. i’ve regretted it more than any other pedal i ever sold because i adored the full-left setting that was instant Rust Never Sleeps. i found a Velcroscillator a few years ago, but its sound was looser and less defined. after a literal decade of searching one finally showed up on Reverb and i pounced on it. this one has the black/white split art that reminds me of Native American rituals which i vaguely remember. needless to say I’m super chuffed. this easily could go on one of the boards, perhaps as a sub for the Danelectro 3699 on the Normie Board which doesn’t really fit the description. could also make a deadly team with the Land harmonic percolator.

The spray paint and hand stamped days were wild. Mostly fun. Lots of experimentation and chaos, sometimes plans, sometimes no plans...
Despite an exhaust fan and respirator (okay, sometimes I'd go in the booth for a quick spray and hold my breath), I spent years routinely covering myself in paint, arms and legs often bare, and inevitably inhaling plenty of still outgassing pedals. The paint booth was an 8x5ish room, one interior door away from my shop at the time.
By 2016, I stopped all spraying for health and environmental reasons. To ensure I wouldn't go back, I somewhat impulsively and hastily disposed of my entire custom stamp collection in 2016.

it’s not exactly the same, but it’s pretty close. my memory is that my old one was about 5-7% more over-the-top than this one, but if i need even more ROAR it goes wonderfully with the Land HP-2 Harmonic Percolator…they have a similar grain/texture in some settings so i can use the HP-2 to push it if need be. i should work with it some more, maybe try the Les Paul with PAFs or the LP Special with P-90s rather than the Duo Sonic which is fairly full for a Fender with small single-coils but maybe not the best match. i seem to recall using it with those guitars most. i just like playing the DS because it's the right size for my hands and body.

Well then, maybe I should take a look at it. If it really is 5-7% less over-the-top, I should be able to find the cause...maybe an RF filter that wasn't on your previous one (there was a brief period where I put them on extra high gain designs), or impedance mod, or a bad or out-of-spec 1n34a...

i'll check it later today and let you know. to get the most consistent result i should play through it with the guitars i actually had and used it with at the time, which would have been the Epiphone SG or one of the two Tokais, a LP Standard with PAFs and a single-cut Special with P-90s. it'd probably be more helpful for you to look at the Velcroscillator which seems wonkier, but like i said i'll check.

just played it with the SG and it’s fine, just like i remember the old one. i was having fun mangling “Into The Black” with the SG’s Vibrola…the original one wasn’t great so i replaced it with a unit from a Epi Joe Bonamassa model that’s better in every way and also use the Music City Bridge domed thumbwheels that allow the bridge to “rock” with the trem. anyway, woohoo. now to try it with the HP-2.
