What's your favorite DAW/plugins/developers/music software/et cetera?

I gotta say, Reason is probably the best thing ever. The immediacy is awesome, and the routing stuff is altogether to much fun. I can't wait to get my hands on Record... has anyone used that? As far as more conventional DAWs go, Logic is pretty damn awesome. The new version is so goddam better than ProTools...

As far as plugins go, I'm a pretty huge Audio Damage fanboy. They make about a dozen effects, thirty or fifty bucks each, and they have the only chorus and flanger sounds I've ever really liked, as well as some of the weirdest sounds ever. Also, their Kombinat plug is the only bit of software I've ever heard that sounds like something off of ILF... D16 group makes some awesome distortions, also. As far as softsynths go, I'm not usually a fan of expensive stuff, but there are two synths that break that rule: Spectrasonics Omnisphere (And Trillian, for that matter. Bassists are now obsolete. ) and Camel Audio Alchemy. Between those two, D.CAM Synth Squad, U-He Zebra, a couple of other tidbits, and Logic's built in synths, I would be set for life... if I had the cash for Omni and Alchemy. XD

For software I use mostly Reason and Record. I use Logic Express 9 occasionally but normally just to run my iZotope plugins that I love (Ozone 4, Trash, Spectron). You should really check out Record. It has some missing features but it's only on version 1 so it will only get better.

As far as other plugins go I've been trying to limit the amount of money I spend on them and just limit myself to what I already have. Some plugins I would definitely buy though are Omnisphere and U-He's Zebra (like you mentioned) and pretty much all of the Native Instruments stuff. I also really like the GUI of the Fab Filter's plugins.

I'm really content working in Reason/Record though. It's very fast and never crashes. Sometimes limitations are a good thing. I'm also a 'test pilot' for Propellerhead so I'm currently testing out some of their new software which I can't discuss because I've signed a NDA.

i like ableton live. i haven't tried anything else though.

Also, can I just toss a big "FUCK YOU" out there to anyone who runs Waves and UAD plugins off of ProTools? Not for any reason other than lack of testicles...

i'm with you......have used a LOt of stuff over the years, but the combo of Reason 4.0 & RECORD is really hard to beat.

i LOVE how the two programs working together can use LESS processing power! that amazes me.....

and while it is a bummer that you can't use external VST stuff in Reason & Record....it's actually a blessing in disguise......one can get so caught up in having hundreds of plug-ins, you never make any MUSIC

i am doing my new stargarden album using Reason, Record, and the Line 6 X3 Live and M9 (along with plenty of good old analog effects boxes)

with my little barebones setup......guitar and X3 Live and M9.....USB keyboard controller.....and Reason & RECORD -- i have a WICKED little studio

You got that right! It's a great time to be a musician! I agree with you that if you have too many plug-ins you can get bogged down in choosing which one to use and never really get anything done. Constraints can be good sometimes! Sounds like you have a killer set-up!

Logic 9, Peak and Soundtrack. I like bias's plugins for mastering and I like some of the ones that came with Logic and soundtrack.
So far Logic 9 for me is the best recording program I have found, it is cohesive and doesn't have a lot of it's own sound.
