How much would you pay?

Post by elbandito »

...for a cc/dc? I've been wondering about price inflation on these kind of short-run effects by different builders. what determines it's value? i suppose it's the demand but realistically, if the cc/dc went for $45 brand new only a little while ago, buying or trading it for something worth $150 brand new today seems like a bad idea. :idk:

$45 is the max i would pay for one and that is what i did pay. some of them that were upgraded with leds/9v dc jack were $75, i believe.

i haven't seen any exampales of inflatation on them compared to the melxowtone which were about the same price and have gone for as much as 120ish on the 'bay. :idk:

I wouldn't sell mine for $45.
If I bought one from someone for $45, I'd assume I was ripping em off.

It doesn't have leds, its battery powered only... which means I'm going to be putting money into it eventually. Also it was described by Eric himself as a "Novelty Pedal".

I paid 40 bucks for mine used.

What about for things like a Wizard Fountain or a Fingerprint? I'm sure that these didn't go for too much new... I have no clue about the current value of the WF but I've seen the fingerprint going for $300.

Well the fingerprints have custom Laura Bennet art so that jacks up the price. I though they sold for a big chunk of money new, $250? Probably was my imagination...

the fingerprint was $180 and had a few month wait. in my case, it took about 5 months to get mine.

I wouldn't put the wizard fountain in the same light as the fingerprint. But really value is all about how the seller feels about the item (sentimental value, usefulness, how long they've had it, etc.) and how much the person wants it. I mean I could have a wizard fountain and not feel very inspired by it but you could have one and write ten songs with it in the first week of owning it.

I think a fair price for the cc/dc would be, honestly, at this point between $75 and $100 shipped.
The amount that exist and the amount of people that want them I think justifies the price
Wiz Fountain, I'd gladly pay up to $120 and I know a few of you guys wouldn't hesitate to pay more

Thats one of my issues with Mellowtone, I love the pedals as much as, and in some cases more than, devis, huggers, dwarfies...what have you
I really wish they weren't so limited, it's so hard to get them
I also wish Eric would charge more than he does for them

full disclosure: I just sold my cc/dc to bennybanana for $135 (shipping to Australia included). I loved the pedal, but for that kind of money, I wasn't interested in holding onto it. However, I firmly believe that if sir banana wanted, he could put that bad boy up on ebay and get every bit of his money out of it. I once saw a melxowtone sell on ebay for well over $100. This is limited edition shit! People like it! :idk:

I have no intention of selling the pedal, unless of course it sounds like shit when I get it (which I seriously doubt)!!! I didnt get in on the cc/dc at the start, only found i <3 fuzz and re-entered the world of pedals a couple of months ago, but it sounds (from the demo's) to be exactly what I need at the moment. Here in Australia pedals are ridiculously overpriced at the local stores (ie - Boss FDR1 is $399au here, around $119US in the US), so these boutique mellowtone, fuzzhugger, devi etc pedals are very cheap at the current exchange rate for me accustomed to the local stores gouging. I paid what I thought I would get it for without any fucking around (in the "bidding war") but I knew that if it didnt quite sound like I wanted I would be able to move it on for around the same dollars. I'd rather buy quality gear that will hold its resale value than new crap that is worth nothing when you leave the store, and the only way to get quality boutique gear here is to buy it in from overseas, either new or used. But the bottom line is tone, and I'm not a collector, just a player and studio owner, and if it sounds good, and I can afford it, then i buy it.
buncha stuff...
