Better know a town.

Post by Astricii »

So I've had this idea floating around in my head for a while now and I thought it'd be cool to do a little round table with you guys about the music in your home towns.

I'll get things started:

Current Denver Favorites:

Accordion Crimes: Lo-fi 90's influenced indie rock, (Pavement, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc.)
http://www.myspace.com/commitaccordioncrimes
Here's a video of them re-imagining another denver band's song "super soft knife"

Gangcharger: Wall of sound, shoegaze, noise
http://www.myspace.com/thesoakingquiet
Cellular Memory: (recorded version on their myspace)

Light Travels Faster: I dunno kinda like Sonic Youth covering Roxy Music
http://www.myspace.com/ltfmusic
Friends Like These:

Favorite band no longer playing:

Bright Channel: Dark lofi shoegaze noise? I dunno Jeff Suthers is a genius
http://www.myspace.com/brightchannel
Witness

I miss them

ah hell here's one more
Final Stretch:

Now, let's see your town! :thumb:

Aww man,my town's got nothing but bullshit cover bands. There was one band,Spy For Hire, but they're all in Atlanta. They were decent enough. Sort of sounded like Supergrass meets 50,000 B.C. era Shudder To Think

I was never all that big on the local indie scene. But I've seen two kickass shows by Boston-based bands in the last couple months at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA. One was Freezepop, who quite simply might be the best synth-pop band on earth. The other was Destroy Babylon, a punk/reggae/dub group. They covered London Calling in its entirety on New Years Day, which was the 30th anniversary of its release. They fuckin rocked it, spot on.

the music scene in Saratoga Springs is pretty non existant. There's ma band (http://www.myspace.com/verbstheband), and a few of my friend's bands from school, Gung Ho (http://www.myspace.com/thisisgungho)...straight ahead goodtime rock I guess, and Southern Girls (http://www.myspace.com/southerngirlsny)...hardcore/math rock...pretty cool shit.

the only real town band of note is Railbird (http://www.myspace.com/railbirdmusic)

To add to Bigchiefbc in boston/cambridge/somerville area, Technoir MA (http://www.myspace.com/technoirma) are a pretty sweet guitar-driven New Order-throwback type of band

we got nothing. maybe a few samey hardcore bands here and there and a couple shitty pop punk fallout boy wannabes, but nothing real. a nearby town has this band enzuigiri thats pretty good and my real good friend, singer/song writer, hairy dude dave bello is from here but he mostly plays in morgantown (wvu).

Dave's site where you can download and stream all his music: http://davidfbello.com/albums/index.html

Since I basically live in two cities, here is one from each:

This is dd/mm/yyyy from Toronto, crazy muthas and good friends of mine. This tune is kinda old but the vid was completely hand drawn!

Tonight, I saw a band here in MTL called "Bad Uncle". It was a punk rock/polka burlesque show and was by far the most impressive indie no-name band concert I've ever seen. They covered "Ace of Spades", fer fuck's sake! With an ACCORDIAN! I searched for some youtube footage and this is the best I came up with but the concert tonight was about 1000% better.
