I got a used DS-1 from a friend of mine a few months ago, and as I'm very new to the world of guitar and effects, it was my first pedal. For a thirty dollar pedal, I was satisfied with it. After trying a few other distortions and fuzzes at the local guitar shop, though, I was feeling pretty bored with it. However, after picking up a variable-voltage transformer, the thing took on a new light: at 15 volts, with the distortion all the way up and the tone at 10:00, the thing sounds amazing. Likewise, with the distortion at 9:00, the tone maxed, and running at 3 volts, it sounds like some boutique overdrive. So, my question: is the humble DS-1 a blasphemy, or can creative uses save it from itself?
