What do you who play bass use. I am looking mostly for a great overdrive/and fuzz
i have been thinking of an arc flash, or a greatwall dlx, and probably a big muff, any input on these or what you use.

could you further describe what kind of overdrive or fuzz tones you're after? maybe post a link to a bass track you like? there are a lot of great effects out there, so recommending something becomes a process of elimination... :)

I play bass. I also love fuzz. Here are my thoughts on the matter.

All of the bass clips of the Great Wall that I've heard sound sick in the best possible way:

The Eau Claire Thunder kicks ass:

Hair of the Dog is also awesome:

The Ruiner looks righteous:

The Malekko B:assmaster one of my never-leaving-my-board pedals:

I love my Devi Ever Cherry Pop on bass, but it's not made any more - you could probably approximate one with a custom Devi double pedal: Soda Meiser going into a Dark Boost. Sadly, there aren't any CP bass clips up on YouTube...
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

I really dig the bass tone of Russian circles and young widows lately and the music I will be playing is in the same vain as that. I specificly like the sound on the song Geneva by RC. But I don't want those exact to es I just like the sound. There are just too many choices. All thngs considered I'm still piecing together my rig so I guess the amp has a lot to do with tones as well when choosing a pedal

I highly recommend the Great Wall, Arc Flash, Dark Boost and MI Audio GI fuzz.
The Blue Beard is nice, but I think the GI Fuzz and Neo Fuzz are more versatile, and can get that Muffish range.

This is my normal, go to, favorite (pick one) set up.

Bass>Arc Flash>CCDC>Zeke>Great Wall >Tecamp Dream Buzz >Owen Gremlin OD> Dark Boost>Dark Boost.

Various Devi’s, GI Fuzz, other overdrives, and distortions appear sporadically some where between the CCDC and Great Wall.

Modulation and delays sort of float around at the beginning and in the middle just before the Dark Boosts

As far as ILF fuzzes go, I have owned and used a Bit, a Hyperion, a Dark Boost, an Electric Brown/LP, and a bass-modded AB-Synth with good results and minimal loss of low-end. The other Devi's do tend to lose some low-end (except the supermassive black hole/bass fuzz and the Ruiner, which is two stacked Dark Boosts), but can still be used for some purposes on bass.

The Great Wall bass demo that Tom put up sounds thunderous, by the way.

devi - SMBH
Dwarfcraft - Hair of the DOG

ideally for bass you wanna use a blender pedal and run a fuzz in parallel. you'll never lose your low end this way.
now posting as Forrrest.

I have owned and loved many before, and after, receiving a Malekko B:Assmaster, but none so much as that.

 = some fuzzes
:joy: = many fuzzes
:omg: = Malekko B:Assmaster (silicon version)

But it all depends on what you're looking for. If you enjoy cutting through a mix, I maintain this recommendation.

I use a Hyperion and VFM with good results. There's some loss of low end (relative to the bass that's used), but it's not too bad. SMs sound pretty awesome as well.

Otherwise, I had good results with an MXR Blue Box, but not -as- good as the Devis.
