Cheap pedals FTW! I played a 1970's Doctor Q and a PM-7. I loved both but wanted the PM-7 more.... so I tried the Nano Doctor Q and it sounded exactly the same as the vintage one $20 cheaper. So I got both!!!
And the Blackheart Handsome devil combo was my amp of choice for the day. Wonderful overdrive.

not b/s/t?!! that's sacrilège! but nice score nonetheless... there's something about coily cables that gets me all primed.
you know, i've played a few Dr Q's and I've never thought that they did a great job. The effect never seemed to come thru enough. I use my FM4 for autowah purposes for the moment, until I get myself a dedicated filter pedal of some sort... maybe a Qtron+

Yeah it doesn't compare to a Q-tron, but beats the mini/micro q-tron for sure. I played an old Gibson SG through the Blackheart and got some 70's deep purple tones. The effect was pretty pronounced for me. I think there's a trim pot on the inside as well.
The PM-7 is fucking sweet though, super ring mod phaser majiggy.

That's the amp I have! Love my Blackheart

Single channel. Level, Drive, Bass, Mid, Treble, and Presence controls. No reverb. 15 and 7 watt power modes available. The stock speaker is made by Eminence and I love it and have no plans to replace it. 2x EL84 power tubes, 2x 12ax7 preamp tubes. I put matched JJ's in the power section. For the preamp section, I put a JAN-Philips 5751 in V1 and an EHX 12ax7 in V2. The 5751 brings the gain down just a bit and gives me more headroom, but when you really push it the preamp breaks up so smooth and it's just perfect overdrive. As far as construction goes, the whole thing is built solid as hell. I've been gigging with it on a fairly regular basis for the last 6 months and I've had no trouble whatsoever.
I could write a full review on the thing along with some soundclips if anyone is interested. Or just soundclips?

NewarkWilder wrote:i don't wanna put you to any trouble, i'd certainly listen to some soundclips for sure but don't feel obligated... one question--with the EL84s, does it have a voxey kind of vibe to it or have its own character? I was hoping it was a little meaner, more crunch than chime ya know? any deets on that specifically would be
thanks!!
Sounds clips would be no problem at all. I'll get em done this week
My first thought was that it would have that bright, chimey British feel cause of the EL84s. That is certainly not the case with this amp. It gets really crunchy. Not like metallic Marshall-esque crunch, but a mean, beefy, full-throated crunch. I really like it. Very "American" if you can dig what I mean.
Oh and one thing I forgot to mention about this amp: it takes pedals like a dream Tom from FH records all his demos on the 5 watt Blackheart (the model name is escaping me at the moment)

I came so close to buying one of those 15 watt blackhearts but they've always seemed so gimicky and cheap to me so I saved the money to fund a nice hollowbody. Now I'm kind of regretting it
