I like my Fender Zone (despite it's looks) and it has had the electronics modded some, but it's just too complex for me, I'd rather have a more simple bass. What do you guys think? There is only one rule- it must be passive :D I've been looking at- MIM Fender P-Bass Danelectro Longhorn Epiphone EB-3 Vintage Icon VJ96 Bass
What are some other ones you would suggest. Price doesn't really matter (My dream bass is one of those vintage telecaster basses )
Keep it simple… A Fender P or Jazz.. The new Squires are inexpensive and getting better in quality. The MIMs are nice too, used you can find them for around $200- $300.
Tele bass? ‘51 reissues are fantastic MIJ and very well made. I have heard good things about the 2 Squire versions, aside from hardware, the ’72 with mudbucker and the 50’s vibe both have gotten good reviews.

The reviews on the new Squiers have been great - seems the vintage P is more on-mark than the J, but either of them would be a great bargain.
Or, if price really doesn't matter (but still, say, under a grand), I love love LOVE my Highway 1 Jazz. You can get one new at Sweetwater: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JBassH1HB. I've never shopped there, but one of my guitar players does all the time, and he swears by those guys.

I know, I was just kidding around. I actually know of a bass builder who could make you a bass that you would probably love. I know you're probably thinking "custom bass? I said reasonable." The only reason I bring it up is because he's made a bunch of custom tele style bass' that look amazing and he is cheap for a custom builder (his site says usually $1500-$2000). Anyway, I thought you might at least like to drool over some of his work even if you decide you can't afford one. BTW, I'm not affiliated with this builder, just always admired his work...
