On a somewhat related note, has anyone heard that version of "Loveless" by Japancakes? That makes for some interesting listening:

Weird to hear MBV songs largely stripped of all the effects-based wackiness like this.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

I find the Japancakes album boring and uninteresting for the most part, but listening to it I always hear something new when I return to the original Loveless...so I guess it has its place

On both of those, the art is copped from an old japanese woodblock print called The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Look it up.

I also saw it on a package of dried seaweed yesterday.

EDIT: I just looked it up. Those prints are really cool, thanks for the info.

I saw the MBV show in Chicago and it was unreal. The night still feels like a dream.

my friends cousin played a show i set up for him when he was coming through town
he bitched the whole time and was a general ass
then he played a MBV cover by hitting play on itunes and playing a little guitar over it and singing

people who do MBV covers are assholes

in my experience

 yeah I tend to agree...I just thought this was kind of a fresh take. I'll never like an MBV cover better than the real thing though. And I don't think I'll ever like any recording of theirs better than seeing them in person at the Roseland last september. Best night of my life.
