Re: D*A*M pedals?
I can't reccomend anything for the stupid prices those things go for (although they are well built and with top quality components admittedly, but the re-sale values are stupid) but from the builds i've done of what they're clones of, the Tone Bender MkII is an amazing pedal, think the fuzz tone in Babe i'm gunna leave you by Zeppelins Chorus, really nice, it's my go to fuzz over the fuzz face.
2nd The Dallas Rangemaster which I think they call the red rooster, really sweet pedal, even with a silicon rather than germanium transistor if you pull a few tricks, adds a really nice break up, if you find one built buy another company such as analogman get it with switchable input caps really opens up your options on that pedal such as the Keeley Java Boost, just a shame they made it negative ground and put the useless tone control on it, otherwise awesome probably one of the best things for your tone, can just stick it on and forget it.
I've built 386 distortions very simmilar to the Sonic Titan and they're pretty good, can be a bit harsh though but if you want a heavy fuzzy distortion they're quite nice.
They're all based off classic designs though, so whatever you get is gunna have a good tone from back in the day.

Re: D*A*M pedals?
Ive played the mkii and i owned a meathead. Both are pretty overrated in my opinion. Def nothing you cant get cheaper from other manufacturers. The little red rocket from phoenix is definately on par with the dam in my opinion. Fuck paying a shitload extra to have the correct transistors.

Meatheads & Sonic Titans sound like nothing out of the past. I mean, if you really wanna reach you can say the Meathead originated from a silicon Fuzzface, but if you do that you can also say that about pretty much every fuzz pedal ever.
And buying new from V&R in London is the way to go, or from the cool people who sell for good prices on the DAM forum. Fuck the 2nd hand prices you see on TGP and ebay.
Yeah I realise the Sonic Titan is more modern... but I was too lazy to say mostly based

And yup... alotta pedals are just Fuzz Face derivatives, doesn't mean that some arent' more suited to certain people though and I think with the D*A*M fuzz face you're atleast getting really nice parts and good build.
But this is deriving from the original post, I was merely generalising.

Re: D*A*M pedals?
I have:
1966
African Lilac Sonic Titan
Fuzzrong
Ram Head
Red Baron Meathead
Red Baron Red Rooster
Fuzzaround
D*A*M/Solasound MkII
Dragonfly (pre-Dag'n'Fly)
and on the lists for a MkII and a Fuzzsound.
They're awesome. Build quality, sound, support if you ever need it...
The stupid used prices you see are not his fault, so I don't think that's really a fair complaint. The other reason they can get a bit pricey is they're priced in British pounds to start with, and a cup of tea in the UK will often cost you $20. Go figure. Crappy exchange rates make it seem much much worse, but his average price new is GBP150~180. everything there is priced like that. Take the US/Euro price and slap a pounds sign on it (your 99c tracks on iTunes are (or at least were) 99p = about US$1.80).
But these threads usually turn into a division over fanbois (like me I guess) and the other guys going "Too expensive, and i can get the same sound out of my $15 Bad Monkey"
I got interested in them when I heard of the 1966 as I really wanted a Vox Tonebender and no-one else was doing those. I've since got an original, and the D*A*M is way better.

Re: D*A*M pedals?
I only have an Ezekiel 25:17 right now.
Ok who’d need any thing else?
I have tried the Sonic Titan and Meathead.
The Sonic Titan sounds excellent with bass, very articulated and gives a nice smooth distortion. Just trying it out put it on top of my want list.
The Meathead wasn’t all that great with bass, but did have a nasty biting sound.
Sounded great with guitar though.
They have a new Meathead Dark, and a friend is on the list for it and the Super Bee so I’ll eventually get a chance to try them out.
There are a few nice sound clips up on the D*A*M site.

V & R also sells Devi’s and DR. Scientist’s goodies so they must be all right.

As a side note the Zeke also is excellent with guitar.
Having the blend keeps the top end bright and sparkly if you want it that way and does dropped D beautifully.

Very good of you -- would it involve a jimmied window sash by any chancemorningstaru wrote:Where do you live? I want to send you a "present"...

FWIW, I see Sonic Titans for sale all the time:
Here's one
And another
And another
Or if you're in no hurry drop an email to V&R in London and you'll get one for £179.00.
No need to kill for one

I'd love a zeke, just can't afford it right now. What I'd really like is a custom Ezekiel 23:19

...but I like killing people
I've seen those white ones...it may sound silly, but I don't really dig the finish.
I wouldn't mind a black cherry sparkle one, but the one you linked already sold.
