Anybody tried any of The Syle pedals

I've looked at their stuff a couple of times but never bought. Something about them feels off - I think they had problems filling orders initially and the only used one I've seen for sale had a busted switch.

Atom filter does look cool though.

I currently have the Umiom, which is a pretty chunky, heavy distortion. I like it because it has a ton of options (bass and treble boost switches, Si<->Ge switch, impedence knob). The sound is probably not what most of the people here go for, though; I'd say its more on the metal side of things. But the build quality is great and it's crazy versatile.

The only one I've seen any kind of review of is the green filter.

The Bassfuzz guy seemed to like it fairly well. These look like unorthodox and versatile pedals but they could just be crap.

The only other metal-esque distortion (as opposed to fuzz or overdrive) I've played before are the Rat 2 and the Turbo Rat. The Turbo knocked the Rat 2 off my board, and the Umiom knocked the Turbo Rat off. It can do what the Rat does, plus more. I'm not gonna go say that its the end-all be-all metal distortion, because I haven't played enough pedals to say that. But it is certainly versatile and I have no trouble getting a good sound out of it.

I saw a reference somewhere to the Particle Distorter as being a pedal that was well suited to Shoegaze. I'm liking what appears to be great flexibility in these pedals. Of course flexibility is moot if you can't get a good sound out of the pedal.

The Syle Singularity Overdrive.

It has a feedback loop, tweakable boost, germanium rectifier, pre and post eq.

So it is very flexible. I hope it sounds good.

I do find it kind of ugly but I am a sucker for an overdrive with lots of knobs and switches. Especially if I can get it pretty cheap.

Finally got THE SINGULARITY pedal. Shipped from Canada. Took a damned long time. I was starting to worry it would never show up.

Now I have it and it has lots of knobs and switches that have some ordinary labels like boost and eq but don't necessarily behave like what they are labeled as.

To be blunt this is one batshit crazy pedal. It's pretty damned ugly as you can see from the picture up a bit in the thread. Blue paint and some cheap paint markers. No clear coat. The markers have started to smear. Crappy graffiti-style lettering. Inside is a bit of a rat's nest with foam rubber, black tape and wires sprawling all over the place.

Like I said the control have labels that imply that they have understandable functions. This, however, is not the case. The pots do not seem to do anything in a linear manner. You can get more volume as you turn something up and then it might howl or whistle. Sometimes a fairly conventional overdrive or fuzz tone will escape and then as you turn more howling or whistling starts again. Some of the controls seem not to have any effect at some setting and then great effect at others. The Boost controls at some settings have great effect even though the boost footswitch is not turned on. Sometimes when it is they seem to have little or no effect. Hot spots can be found at some points in the travel of various pots while in other places nothing seems to change at all as it is turned. Sounds seem to be very difficult to replicate. One can replicate previous settings and a totally different sound comes out.

I will need to play around with this more but this pedal has some conventional overdrive and fuzz sounds and some extreme sounds. It also will self-oscillate and can be used to produce sound without any input.

I think it has some real possibilities, especially stacked with other pedals as a tone shaper/crusher/destroyer.

Playing this again today. Found a setting with a really heavy gnarly fuzz tone. Kind of like my Germanium Assmaster but more Gravelly. This thing keeps revealing its treasures.

At some point I can. May be later rather than sooner.

As I have continued to use this I've realized that the best sounds out of this are bass heavy, gravelly overdrive into fuzz. A great sound. You can get a range of sounds down to very thin trebly fuzz but I have not yet found that as appealing.

It is still pretty difficult to dial in. This is probably more a pedal for studio tweaking than live use but it's overdrive sound is liking nothing else I have used or heard and for me is quite musical.

After nearly seriously regretting this purchase I know find that it makes some of my favorite sounds that I can get out of my equipment.

If you are into more indy, post-rock, post-punk, and experimental styles I believe the pedals from the Syle are worth a good look, though it seems you would be better off finding a used one.
