Can we talk about the Kevin shields pedal?

Post by SPACERITUAL »

I missed it and there’s like ten of them on reverb for inflated sneaker prices. There are way too many ppl into gear now and everything is way too expensive.

this is really it isnt it. It is a fender blender that for some reason is over 1500 dollars.

who are these people? I know some shit has always been expensive but it has been stuff i can see why (some guitarist played it on some specific record that many people who have plenty of stocks listened to) but what sort of person had 2000 dollars to blow on this? why not get a good fuzz instead

I just dont understand anymore

Hasn't the Fender Blender been cloned successfully? I wonder how much harder it would be to clone this.

I think madebymike is supposed to make a pretty mean one

It looks to be quite a lot but idk how much actually matters i guess it is doable. I think the difficult first step is having a well meaning person aquire it to start dismantling the special stuff

A) it isn’t a straight reissue. There are several new tricks that seem very cool and playable.

B) it’s supposed to be more accurate than Fender’s attempted reissue in so far as the OG is the core of the pedal. Given that Fender had botched a clone, be skeptical that third parties got it right. (There is a known mod to fix the RI pedals.)

C) it was $500, not $2000, which is still a lot. Reverb selling a limited collectible pedal that they then (by clear design) profit on the flipping of is morally abhorrent. Hopefully Kevin got a nice cut for putting his Herbie Hancock on these things.

D) the guts reveal that this can easily be run as a non-limited mass production pedal for us proles, and unverified rumor at OSG is that that will happen in the fall. I”d be lying if I tried to say I wouldn’t go to $350 for one of these without the signature and fancy box and booklet. But I do hope it’s less. Unlike the Bliss Factory, there was no promise of no more ever (which was soon broken with a doubling of supply). After the second thousand and almost three years, the BF secondary market is about the same as original purchase price. After non-limited runs the SB should come back to earth for those who dig the sounds.

everything's been turned into fucking watches, man. music gear, video games, ugly shoes, ugly tshirts from the 90s that would've gotten you beaten up if you wore them in the 90s. all getting swapped by moneyed men, grifters and shysters for three and four figure sums. it sucks! at least boss overdrives remain in the 50-100£ window, feels like damn everything else is collectable-priced.

Just to clarify I think fender blenders are cool and that the additions are nice. But no fuzz is 2000 dollars. Even a new price of 500 is unthinkable in the context of where gear was just 5 years ago

300 bucks gets you a bad monkey pedal now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That 300 is probably closer to 400, once you factor for inflation.

I would venture to say there's still cool affordable dirt pedals, but the culture & impulse has always been there. It's just expanded from Japanese collectors buying Ventures Mosrites to My Bloody Midlife Crisis pedals.
good deals are here.

I think this can be said for just about any limited edition hype pedal. Still we are talking about Fender, the tiny boutique company. Pedal building looks so different than it did like 10 years ago people just skip to prefab or whatever thaey do. Building on perf or even single layer fabPCB feels like it is becoming an entusiast thing rather than something businesses do. I'm thinking about how the EQD Sunn pedal was all SMD even the fancy big box one. I mean in one way floating pcb elecrical tape builds may not be ideal BUT...

it is sad that this is a bad thing

it is sad that you can pretty much get a big company pedal that makes your guitar sound like william bennett but there aren't thousands of guitarists that give up and make noise.

I dunno....a 4ms Noise Swash D-Luxx is still about $250 give or take, but that is neither here nor....beer?

Biggest takeaway here: this peddle arrives shrink wrapped 4 yer perfection. Shoulda had Kevin Shields sign the original wrapper instead of teh bookleafdth, then we could really see who is just flippin funkos on Reverb without tellin' their moms :snax:

Noise is free & for every buddy, but delicate dipping areas are the gold teeth of today's idle zoomanity :excellent:
