duke's uke jukejoint

Post by qersty »

So I have kind of started an Israel Kamakawiwo'ole phase. Wonderin' if anyone here has tips on some great ukulele heavy (or heavy ukulele ) music. Kinda wanna pick it up again but want to listen to stuff that isn't stereotypical. I always feel it has a too characteristic timbre to for me to play anything that doesn't sound like a spongebob background tune

This is really cool1 Sounds more like a Mi Compose guitar than a tenor

Not sure what you consider stereotypical, but you can't get much more stereotypically Hawaiian than this (the steel player is one of my faves):

Turkish music?

Maybe some Venezuelan cuatro music (it's essentially the same instrument)?:

Hard to describe but I'm not opposed to Hawaiian sounding stuff. The legit stuff is really cool. Maybe I should say stuff that sounds lazy, like "oh this guy picked up a uke and stums the same i-v-ii". Listened some to it really cool stuff. Gotta listen to it more proper, havent really realized that i have more time to listen to albums at home when cause im not driving around 12hs a day.

cuatro's tuned with the first string and octave down? pretty cool tuning

Yeah, like some uke tunings, it's a re-entrant tuning. :thumb: I love shit like that. :snax:

a lot of the sound is also playing style.. I used a use cheap plywood uke tuned like a bass guitar with a pick for the intro and outro for this [the middle is a acoustic bass through a TGD]

If I had the money I'd definitely get a Godin MultiUke.
It's expensive but looks pretty sweet.
I'd love to run a tenor ukulele through effects.

Years ago I made several clips that I recorded with a cheap Lanikai tenor ukulele.
But careful when posting ukulele clips on YouTube... you're bound to get comments
that claim that you're "not doing it right", especially if you sometimes strum with a pick
or do anything slightly "unorthodox".

It's an instrument with strings. It's made to make music.
