I have two RE-20s, but...temptation calls on the 202 just for the fourth playback head!
Anybody out there bag one yet?

there were a few people on osg that managed to get them but, since the first batches went out, finding one in stock anywhere is as rare as unicorn shite

As someone who works on used pedals a lot (I do repairs on the side for a guitar shop now)...This is the MOST common broken pedal I seeBlackened Soul wrote:Ever since I got a first run of the carbon copy and got a doa one I never buy until 2nd or later gens so the bugs and production issues are a bit smoothed out

I've not had issues with the Roland/Boss stuff there and been buying for 30 years now!
And frankly, it's NIB from a major vendor, if it's dead I'd get a replacement or a refund, so...

Re: Anybody grab a RE-202 yet?
I got one. I love it, to me it was definitely worth the price and the amount of board space.
IMO, it sounds waaaayyyyyy better than the RE-20 and is way easier to use. Haven’t tried in stereo yet but will probably hook it up to two amps this week.
I find the presets are a great feature, I set them up to be gradually longer, deeper, and with more feedback or oscillation, so I can gradually get spacier within one song. Or, just swap between slapback, medium delay, and ambient modes easily.
It’s got some annoying traits. The reverb has to be manually turned off in ‘Manual’ mode, and honestly I think all the reverbs are pretty bland. So you’ve either got to shut it off anytime you power on, or just keep the reverb to zero. The presets will remember if you have no reverb so it’s only a quirk in Manual.
If you’re gonna compare it to a real Roland space echo, or a much bigger platform like the DL4, I’m sure there are other shortcomings. But if you just take it as an improved RE20, boss really did a great job.
@Blackened Soul, I think that’s the way to be, but I couldn’t wait to try this one out. So far, no huge problems.

I have a real one and a pair of RE-20s already.
The reverb has ALWAYS sucked on them to be honest, it's not a selling point for me, never was.

Very curious to hear how you feel the 202 compares to your 20! IIRC you said it passed the Turing test against your OG unit, right?
I wonder if the extra reverb algorithms are just lifted from the RV-6 or something.

Re: Anybody grab a RE-202 yet?
Ah, well, demo wasn't available before I pulled the trigger.
Damn.
I'll deal.
And yea, the OG RE-20 passes the Turing Test for me against my originals except on extreme things (and mine is a bit modded as is).
Basic tone/decay/presence is all there, so much so that I got a second when they were discontinued lest I not have one.
And now I get..this one.
It's going to be Space Echoception soon.
Damn.
I'll deal.

Already going to play with "run left to right" stereo chain in series games - that'll give me seven options.friendship wrote:i mean you're definitely going to have to run them all in series and get that Webb telescope sound
