I dont like this version as much as the original. The original has a much cooler vibe. Also the live version from brixton is the go-to for the funkier vibe

You know, that's a good question. I don't remember ever seeing/hearing them use that instrument. 
They do use a Suzuki Omnichord to good effect though.
