I already have that

Post by qersty »

I just had a moment when i tortured my deluxe by playing bass thru it. I split the channels and ran one distorted and the other double dirted by running my coron distortion through just one channel. It sounded so fucking good. Blackfaces really are the best bass amps (Do blackface showmans exist lol? I only see silver ones, which are great, but not the same. Whatever!). I started thinking I needed to get some 250/dist+ thing with a clean blend. Proceeded to fuck up googling it. Then I thought to myself "What the fuck the elements already fucking does that. what were i thinking?" (A: tracking number makes brain go good). Anyways you ever have an "I already have that" moment like that? I definetly have too few. I really should clean out my pedal drawer and see all the shit I have and how I can use it.

Don't know what the point this thread will have but it hinders not-posting i hope. Which is good!

PEACE!

that price is suspicious. like a twin from that era is 5 times more and should be practically the same amp

The preamp section may or may not be better without the squishy Fender power amp, depending on what you’re going for.

Yeah I've been wanting one of those like forever and back. 100 watt tube power amp on bass is really sweet though unless you're pushing pot-smokin levels. There is also this SMS thing that is the same deal but single channel with verb and bit cheaper i think.

I mean I could also just slave my deluxe into a beefier power amp cause its that amp i like :idk: that is too sane a solution though

Those are pretty good, I've had ono but traded it years ago... I have the SWR, Demeter and Trace Elliot V-type which all seem to be based on similar fEnder pre lines.. the EQ sections are really what make them their own thing.. they all have different mid voicing.. I dislike the deep/switchable bass controls, I always want them right in the middle of the 2 freqs the things are set to.. That why I ended up using the SWR ones as they have a Q for the low and hi mids

I have always stuck to ampeg cause if you set them flat they are flat and you dont have to worry about the frequencies being wrong

A blackface showman was my first nice amp and I really regret selling it.

I am running a SMS Classic preamp JG (and a hillbish preamp on the b channel of an aby) into a quilter interblock power amp (sending either preamp into the fx return) and then intova eminence governors + wizards loaded hiwatt 4x12, I love it. Would probably be even better through a high-end tube power amp but that will have to wait because money.

I would also consider a mesa boogie mk 1, 2 or 3 if you are into blackface sounds but want something different (and probably a bit cheaper). They are super versatile and have superb clean tones.

SMS also have another preamp (a green one) which seems fantastic. I would love to try one out and compare it to the classic preamp.
