Re: Marshall Guv'nor v. Guv'nor Plus
I have a guvnor plus, but I can't speak for the old one. The Plus has NO high end at all, I repeat NO HIGHs at all. Apparently, there are several spots in the circuit where highs get lopped off. It has a sort of resonance control that'll give you OBNOXIOUS amounts of low end, and the dirt it dishes out is pretty good. If you're looking for a smooth, creamy OD sound with very little rasp, give it a whirl. If you don't get the one on E(vil)bay and still want one, hit me up and I'll sell you mine. I have waaaay too many OD's.....never enough fuzz.

I'd say go for the vintage, the new one broke after 5 minutes of GENTLE use in a store...

Mine's held up pretty well. I opened it up (of course) and thoroughly investigated the innards. Perhaps there are slight differences from production run to production run but mine seems pretty sturdy.

Hmm.. interesting. I think it was a problem with the wiring, as the led would light up when on and the signal would pass through when bypassed.... Bad footswitch perhaps?

I'd say that sounds like a likely culprit. It's usually something mechanical that goes awry in a pedal unless you're rockin' them finicky germanium transistors in yer fuzz or some such BS.
