What else sounds like the Moogerfooger Freqbox?
I can’t post the YouTube link because I’m on my phone but I was watching the video of Schnobel Tone tear it the fuck up on the Freqbox with a bass. Now I want one. Obviously it’s way out of production and used ones are.... $1400 range on Reverb.....
Anything sound similar to this? I don’t even know what to call this type of effect. Filtered wah fuzz? Synthy fuzz? I have an FM4 but I don’t think it can do this. And if it can I just saved $1400! A profitable day.....

It's frequency modulation, so a Copilot Orbit or Iron Ether FMeron would get you in the ballpark, but they both sound pretty different.

FM is not the core thing. It is an oscillator that syncs to the input and lets you ad FM for more freaky things. Theoretically you should just be able to do it with any synth that has oscillator sync. I doubt that is the case tho and that Moog had to do some Shumannesque magic to make it track with guitars etc. You may be able to pull it off with some more advanced bass synth pedals with a little deep diving. My suggestion would be a fuzz factory or wolf computer etc. but you play actives :Pkaeth wrote:It's frequency modulation, so a Copilot Orbit or Iron Ether FMeron would get you in the ballpark, but they both sound pretty different.

Actually from personal experience... Last Gasp Art Laboratories Tone Axe
It's not exact but nothing really is [I've owned 2 freqboxes, still have one... the other was when I was trying to be all super synth and wanted two oscillators and split my signal with a octave divider going into one...], I had a Copilot Orbit and was only disappointed and frustrated every time I plugged it in... it's almost good, you can almost get it to do what you want.. but what you get is bland almosts... the LAL Tone Axe while doesn't get you the subtle control of the moog gets you in the ballpark AND is weird and strange in it's own way
Granted... just like with the freqbox for the real BIG FAT SYNTHY TONEZ you will need a good envelope filter and maybe a ringmod... and maybe a badass phase.. my goto "pedal" based synth sound is mf-107 > [sometimes mf-102] > mf-101 > mf-103

I also kept mine and the big ring mod too. I never found anything that does it like the Freqbox does. Beyond the fuzzy sounds, it can also do some cool CV stuff (the ENV. out was discussed recently in another thread). Just another way to say it's not $1K+ for a fuzz sound... Though even if I love mine, I would not buy one for that price today. It's nuts!

Okay thank you for the suggestions! I have a big Moogerfooger Ring Mod as well, plus a (edit) Bit Commander Data Corrupter..... still in the market for the “perfect” envelope filter (I’ve bought and sold make than I can count!) as well. I’ll have to start combining things I think.
I wish Moog would reissue some of these pedals in a smaller (simpler) format.....

Yeah.. Not everyone needs all the CV control and all the functions... but them deciding which are important to the unwashed masses may be problematic...retinal orbita wrote:I wish Moog would reissue some of these pedals in a smaller (simpler) format.....
oh here is a upright bass > freqbox > MP-101 [with other crap I can't remember]

Fuzzrocious Croak could be a possible solution. Iirc Ryan (who builds them) has said the Freqbox is his all time favourite pedal and the Croak was definitely inspired by it. Doesn't do all the freqbox does but deffo in the ballpark imo.

This was NOT on my radar but looks awesome. Can’t watch any videos now (my wife is watching Bridgerton) but looks like it could be promising! Cheers and best regards!!PanicProne wrote:Fuzzrocious Croak could be a possible solution. I dunno exactly what sounds you are referring to, and am too lazy to google, but what about this thing:

''no worries. Fwiw everything he builds is really solid, he's the nicest of ppl to deal with and his wife, Shannon, does some insaaaane custom artwork. Oh and btw, I'll be getting myself a CROAK very soon.retinal orbita wrote:This was NOT on my radar but looks awesome. I picked up a Ring Mod years ago but I’m kicking myself too. Who would have thought they would get MORE expensive than they already were?qersty wrote:For real tho please stop mentioning moogerfoogers, I'm just feeling stupid for not blowing my cash on those when i had the chance
