Guitar decisions...

Post by hazelwould »

So, I've been looking at some stuff lately. I'm looking for an inexpensive guitar. Something with nice round bottom and chimey highs. I played a Mustang through a Delta Blues and was in lurv. I've also played through a Danelectro 67 Hornet and really enjoyed the tone through a Blues deluxe.

Here's what I'm thinking:
Squire Classic Vibes Duosonic (and eventually change the pups to the mustang pups). Everything thing I've heard online has made the guitar sound really brittle, and I'm wondering if new pups would fix it. Image

Dead on '67 Hornet (not sure how these pups would take a nice thick muff or similar fuzz).

J&D Junglemaster (Jazzmaster clone), and I've thought about replacing the pups with some standard JM ones.

Opnions?

I'd like something with a tremolo (not a necessity), to be able to stay in tune well, and have good fret intonation. As well as take alternate tunings OK. :?:

I've played the Duo Sonic and it is heavenly, definetly worth more than the price. I didn't think it sounded too brittle, but changing the pickups would help.

If it helps the lipsticks on my dano take fuzz very well. Sounded great with a big muff and devi rocket/white spider. Although the hollowbody on danos makes them feedback like a mofo if the fuzz isn't gated enough.

I played my friend's duo sonic, not a lot of low end, but very nice sounding. :thumb:

i have a 50s classic vibe tele, and it is very nice! stock pups sound good, but i will swap them out eventually....

a friend has a 50s classic vibe strat and that is also very nice but i have not played that through an amp it was great unplugged. i want that white strat with the gold pick guard!

i dont think you can go wrong with any of the classic vibes! :thumb:

How'd you score it for $220?

God she smokes.
First heard her and got a CD in Columbia a couple of years before she appeared in the US.
Kept telling my friends “you gotta see and here this chick”

I love her Spanish recordings, but some of the English releases aren’t as good.

But (no pun) I would watch her sing the yellow pages.

I’d love to play bass for her but would either have to pre record my parts or wear a blind fold.

Oh should I say some thing about guitars too?

The Strat and Duo Sonic look good. With the Strat you know what your getting, and have 10,000 aftermarket pickups to choose from.
My brother in law has an original Duo Sonic which always sounded thin and twanky to me. But he makes a Less Paul sound thin and twanky so don’t go by that.

I ahve the duosonic in question, i think it has a fair amount of low end in the neck PU, but the bridge is really harsh :excellent:
