timefactor would be great. a bit out of my league, price wise though.
features i'm looking for? looper isn't entirely important. different delay types is a big plus, and the ability to store presets also good. i understand the DL4 has a sort of delay + phaser effect (i think it's called 'sweep delay') and i know i could get down with that.
I love the DD-20, although you may also want to consider the TC Nova Delay. You can get those used in the $150-170 range, presets, tap, and a good tone range.
Consider the Seymour Duncan Deja Vu. Stereo, tap tempo with subdivision selection and (from the website) :
Also features two insert jacks. The Feedback Insert jack allows an external processor to be included in the recycling path, so that the processor's effect becomes more intense at each regeneration, thus continuously morphing the delayed sound as it recycles. The Wet output/loop jack works on the sound after it leaves the recycler, allowing custom tweaking of the overall character of the wet signal before it recombines with the dry signal.
Also, from what I read it uses analog delay chips, but samples them digitally so that you get longer repeats and the ability to use tap tempo, but it still sounds analog. Or something like that.
i will say this. as a delay pedal n00b, i kind of wish i had gotten something simpler first, like a Digidelay, & then worked my way up to the bigger delay pedals. in the end it worked out okay, but in retrospect, that is what i would have done differently.
if the looper is not important, you should DEFINITELY get the Line 6 DL4 becuz the delays on there are killer.
looking at some of the Youtube demos. the Boss DD20 seems the best suited for guitar playing. some of the modes seem really guitar specific. for lack of a better term.
i really would like to see the Timebender compared w/ the Boss DD20 though.
The DD-20 really doesn't do anything wacky, which is unfortunate... It doesn't do any really cool, weird shit when you twiddle the knobs, but it can do plenty of fun little things like pseudo-ring modulation via the reverse delay.
I think the DD-20 is great all the same... The one drawback for me being they didn't put a HOLD function in place of the useless (for me) "Twist" and "warp" functions... "SOS" mode can sort of work the same way, though...
Neither. Get a EHX Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai. By far my favorite digital delay of all time. Modulation, reverse, reverb, looper filter = lots of awesome tonez.

+1 if looping isn't as important, go for the stereo memory man, way better in terms of delay than the DD 20 and the DL4.
