Any deals going on worth looking into?

Post by Confuzzled »

I need new gear.

• I need an 8x8 midi hub (though I still look at midi as a dead foreign language that I'll never understand)
• I want a new effect. Something odd, goofy, doesn't't need to be expensive.
• Maybe a KORG volca or something similar?

I'm fucking bored.

For the plugin crowd, there are some great deals about to expire.

Pulsar's Echorec plugin is still $29 at jrrshop.com (it's regularly $99). You can sign up for a free trial via Pulsar (even save your presets), but hurry up. The designer's page has already reverted back to full price. I've been using it for the past week with various soft synths.

https://www.jrrshop.com/pulsar-digital-echorec (save another 10% with newsletter10 at checkout)
https://pulsar.audio/echorec/ **you will need to sign up for iLok (free) to complete registration

Arturia has their soft synths and custom preset bundles available for 50%. (expires May 7th) I've been using Pigments and the VII collection a lot recently. I'm about to get a Buchla and Synthi sound pack, because I want more jumping points.

I downloaded GrainSpace & Portal today, too. SEM / CS-80 > granular engines > [Pulsar] Echorec has been pretty magical thus far.

https://www.audiority.com/shop/grainspace/
https://output.com/products/portal

I like GrainSpace more than Portal so far, but having both is providing instant fun. Both have randomize functions, so that's been adding to the immediate gratification. On GS, you can scramble the entire panel. On Portal, there's an option to generate new waveforms, which produces exotic shapes. I haven't gotten that deep into Portal to get the kinds of sounds I'm used to. Straight out of the gate, you're unlikely to hear stuff that resembles other apps or pedals. I'm trying to get thick stutter patterns that are still smooth---a bit like the V2 Outward or the Particle.

With GS, it's better from the launch, if you want softer or more ambient textures. Portal is deeper, though, and I've barely touched the presets---(there might be 150-200 if you're interested in scrolling through them).

Remnant isn't on sale, but at $49, it looks promising. I might get it next month. :idk: https://www.creativeintent.co/product/remnant

From the detektor ad:

"The detektor differs from other electromagnetic sniffer options such as SOMA's Ether or the Elektrosluch in offering both "inductive" sniffing, and wide-band high frequency detection. It can be used to listen closely to devices and experience wider electromagnetic
ecologies."

It's from the same person who makes the Dark Interpreter touch synth, which I've been curious about forever.

I have the Soma Ether. I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but it seems like it doesn't pick up strong (audible) signals unless the Soma is very near a piece of electronics. It could be user error, YMMV. It seems like it's better to use the Soma with headphones (so you can walk around) instead of tethered to a mixer (there's only one output jack) which will limit what signals you can pick up because you're limited to one location. I don't know.

The Detektor looks to be similar but different and definitely cheaper. It might not be any better than the Soma for what I need it for (tethered to a mixer). Somebody buy one and review it please!

I would not recommend the Soma Ether, especially at the price. YMMV.

One negative about the Detektor - it's not enclosed. You could drop it and break it, etc. The SOMA is enclosed in a case
