the reason ILF is the way it is

those of us who've been around these parts for a good while now have known it for ever, the newer ones among us have called it too.
ILF is one of the few boards I've been on where the community is self-policing, self-respecting and holds itself to a certain standard without any sort of douchebaggery.
blend said in another thread that everyone seems to trust each other and genuinely like each other as friends.
we all hold this to be self evident, whenever anything happens that isn't cool it gets sorted out rather quickly, and I don't think there's ever been a real banning here lol
I think the reason is simple.
the things that originally draw people to this forum are effects pedals, and not your typical Boss stuff. you aint gonna find anyone here content to have a rig consisting of guitar->tuner->TS9->DS1->amp.
we are generally the outcasts that people give shoddy looks to, we're the ones that get talked down to and accused of taking ourselves too seriously, we get asked the stupid questions
"who needs that many pedals?" "why so many fuzzes?" "why so many amps for 1 guitar?" "bass should always be clean" "you have a drummer AND a drum machine?" "you dont need that many delays" "are you really splitting your signal then running it back into itself? why?" "whats with all that noise?"
most of us were originally drawn to these things because of what they do and how they do it
after hanging around these parts and reading these threads for the better part of 2 years now I've realized that most of us had a crappy time growing up and alot of us are still trying to come into ourselves, and this isn't a coincidence IMO.
we're kind and caring, and genuinely worry about each other because we all realize it's the way we should all have been treated throughout life. it's the way all people should be towards each other.
obviously it's not always the case, so when we meet others who like ourselves have found this fuzz covered gem, this shoegaze and noise filled room, this acceptance of others regardless of race, religion, sexual preference.......hell anything really, we can't help but love em.
we are the way we are because by society not accepting us we've taken the things that society generally considers proper, positive personality traits and evolved them to an extent that we don't even have to meet the person face to face to care about them.
