Non-animal guitar strap for neck-heavy guitar?

Post by VREEEEVROOOOOW »

I need a new strap since I've started using a third guitar regularly-ish. I have two cheapos that I use whenever I'm not with my beloved V, and I need a strap for one of them.

So I thought rather than getting a shitty strap for the new one I'm using, I can just get a new one for my primary guitar.

For a while now I've been using a strap made from a recycled US military seat-belt. It's nice enough. But my V is pretty neck-heavy, so what I'd ideally want is some wide suede strap... but without the whole dead animal vibe. Or anything else that would work well with a neck-heavy guitar.

Any suggestion?

This is relevant to my interests.
Metal-neck folks like to recommend the Mono Betty straps but I think they look pretty ugly.
A bass strap might be the thing.

I like couch straps a lot and have them on nearly everything.

I think the widest one they do is 3" so idk if it'll be as wide as you want. But they're well made and the material stops my guitars slipping quite well compared to a seatbelt strap. Not that any of my guitars have hugely heavy necks

Which ones, coldbrightsunlight? They have all kinds of materials. Actually, IIRC, my recycled seat-belt one is also from Couch.

Oh sorry yeah they totally do. Durrr. The vintage auto vinyl ones - only kind I have. Like this https://www.couchguitarstraps.com/guita ... itar-strap

It's not the same feel as a suede strap (I actually find suede straps don't slide enough on my shoulder when I use other peoples' guitars with them :idk: ) so they might not do the trick entirely for you... But they're nicely made and look and feel very cool.

Right. It looks like the ones in the 3" wide category are all seat-belt stuff. So are the "extra wide" ones in the vinyl category.

But there are some nice ones in the vinyl category.

Now I need to remember if I were able to convince Couch to ship stuff marked as gift or similar, since these fancy ones are way above the customs limit here...

Richter makes lots of nice stuff in lots of different widths in both vegan and non-vegan models.

@goroth the only strap marked "100% vegan" is only 5cm. Do they have any wider vegan models?

Your v is not neck heavy, it just that most if not all makers put the strap button in the wrong place. It should be about 2 inches away from the middle of the v.

But it isn't, so it's neck-heavy.

For the record, this V is actually rather neck-heavy regardless of how you wanna frame it. The korina body is pretty much weightless.

If you have some concrete suggestions for moving the strap buttons (i.e. putting a new one in), I'm open to suggestions. It's the ltd ed Epiphone 1958 flying v with the all-korina body & black pickguard (as opposed to the less ltd 1958 flying v with the a-tiny-bit-of-korina body & white pickguard).

But I still need a new guitar strap, so I might as well try that option first.
