Danelectro Convertible
Any experiences?
I love the sound of the Danelectro Convertible clean, but I'm wondering how it'll sound in a kinda shoegaze-y post-rock-y noise-y setting. I.e. what's gonna happen if I throw two reverbs, two delays, & two distortions at it? Secondly, IDK how it feels to play.
So I just wanna hear from ILFers. What do you think? Worth investigating this guitar more?

Re: Danelectro Convertible
Had an OG. Great playin' guitar.
Only minor qualm I had was that the bridge was a little squirrelly.
Also, there's potential for feedback. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing in your book.

Re: Danelectro Convertible
Very, very good. That's one of the reasons I want a hollowbody, actually.
I like the sound of it clean, but I wonder how it sounds with a verb into a dirt. Also how it feels to play. I play pretty hard at times. Playing strats or mustangs or whatever, the lowest & highest strings sometimes pop off... And I wanna use .12-.52 chromes with a dropped tuning (open d minor).

Re: Danelectro Convertible
I'm not much for reverb, but I think it'll do fine. Does nicely with dirt. You shouldn't have any trouble gettin' it to feed back either.
They're pretty light guitars. I don't how much better the bridge is on the reissues than the originals.
If you tend to play hard, you might have a problem. It's worth playing one before you buy to find out. I think I probably had .011s on mine.

Light is good. I have the Epiphone pure korina 58 reissue flying v and the guitar bag probably weighs more than the guitar body. I'll definitely try one out before buying it (if ever) -- just trying to find out if it's worth trying out at all! Might have been a cheap piece of shit for all I know.

Re: Danelectro Convertible
Well, considering it's a Danelectro, it is a "cheap piece of shit" (to some people).
I definitely think they're great guitars. The neck on 'em is pretty comfortable. If I could've gotten the bridge to stop moving around easily, I probably would've kept it. I still think about getting another one. I like the sound of lipsticks.

Searched around a bit, and it seems the bridge is a major problem, along with the action being ridiculously high on some of them due to some of them having weirdly angled necks from the factory (I think this was in reference to the originals, not the Korean reissues). Sounds... cheap.

You could always try something like this:

I wasn't brave enough to do that though.

Re: Danelectro Convertible
These're expensive, but looks like there'll be no bridge slippage like on original Danelectros:

Re: Danelectro Convertible
What is the advantage of the convertible over a normal dano? the hole? the tailpiece?

Re: Danelectro Convertible
Honestly, I kinda wanna try to make a Danelectro-style instrument myself. I'd rather do that than buy one.
(of course, it'll be purple!
)
