Anyone know of any EHX Double Muff Mods?
Well, I just got an Electro-Harmonix Double Muff.. and I was wondering if anyone knows of any mods or anything I can do to it to change the sound up a little bit, perhaps?
I know there's Big Muff mods galore over the net, but I haven't found any Double Muff mods yet... or maybe just little things that I could do with just about any fuzz pedal that most people try?

Ah-ha!
I hadn't thought of that actually, it totally escaped my mind...
But It might be interesting...

Umm some simple mods... (difficult to do without an available schematic)
Change the clipping diodes out for different kinds and see what effects that have.
Remove the clipping diodes entirely from one stage of the Double muff (that'd probably be better than changing them, would probably sound very cool)
Remove the front capacitor resistor set up to make the pedal more suitable for bass (I did this for a friend, not bad)
Remove and jumper the emitter resistor of the transistor in each stage for more gain (could do it to just one side again)
Someone else probably knows some other ones...

I was thinking about doing some of the same things, thanks. I found some more/other stuff here http://www.tdpri.com/forum/burnt-finger ... -mods.html. If tele.com isn't allowed I'm sorry, I'll remove, let me know.

Maybe connecting the two muff circuits together to make a double feedback loop or something would be cool.
I wouldn't bother. Starving a Muff doesn't really do anything, they're built to run on batteries for like 9001 years. When I did the mod to my Big Muff nothing really happened.

Jhs pedals does a good mod on the double muff. I'm sending this from my droid though so I don't have the link. Just google jhs pedals.

Looks like Dwarfcraft and JHS used the same website generator.

Hi,
I was brought here by google...I want to mod my Double Muff to use with a bass...
Scruffie has said to remove some resistor to make it more suitable to use with bass, can you indicate me exactly what resistor should be removed ?
Thanks...

Re: Anyone know of any EHX Double Muff Mods?
Post a gut shot and i'll circle the resistor and capacitor network for you (it's just a single capacitor and resistor at the input, can you read schematics?)
It may be best to lower the values rather than remove them though but you can just remove them if you want.
Edit: Couple of things you can try...
1st There's a 220nF at the input too after the resistor capacitor network, try increasing this to let more bass through (to say 470nF)
2nd The Resistor capacitor network at the front is giving preference to higher frequencies so it's not necessarily going to make it more suitable for bass but you can just snip one leg of either of the capacitor or resistor to remove it from the input.
3rd thing is you could cut some of the high ends by putting a cap in parallel with the diodes in the first stage (try 10nF) higher value less treble and vice versa.
4th Change the 1N4148 diodes out to 3mm Red LEDs... it'll tame some of the gain and increase the volume and may give the feeling of more bass (and less gain may be more suitable for bass anyway)

Re: Anyone know of any EHX Double Muff Mods?
I removed the diodes from muff1 and it cleaned up tremendously. Then added 1n34a's and things got dirty again. Going to try a few more things to preference when I have time. Could certainly use less highs.
