a different analog delay thread
So I'm in the opposite boat as pigmaker: I do not love my Rubberneck. There's much about it I do like (modulation, fx loop, and the relatively long delay time), but what I don't like is the graininess of the repeats, the hissiness, and the hair-trigger self-oscillation. I'm looking for recommendations for an analog or analog-ish delay at roughly the same price/value point. I make psychedelic solo guitar based ambient noise, so I use a lot of delay, both analog and digital. Key features for me are: modulation, 1000 ms or more (800 might be OK), relatively clean repeats. I don't care about tap tempo. A loop would be nice but I doubt I'm likely to find it.
What I don't need: Obscura, Canyon, DD-x.
Intrigued by: Disaster Transport, Memory Lane Jr, Echorec, Caverns, DD-20.
Any thoughts?

Unfortunately for you, me thinkin' "Intrigued by: Disaster" would make a great band name is my only thought.

EHX Deluxe Memory Boy has an effects loop.
.7 seconds delay time, and modulation.

These are contradictory.
You are looking for a digital delay.

Keeley Mag Echo is dark but smooth, not noisy, has mod and controllable oscillation. Has about 600ms tho

I hear what you're saying. Emphasis on "relatively." Though it might be true that something analog-ish could be useful; I like the DMM setting on my Canyon, but 99% of the time I keep that on other settings.Tom Von Kramm wrote:Errant Tiger wrote:1000 ms or more (800 might be OK), relatively clean repeats.

I guess that being said, I'm also open to analog-ish digital delays (a few of which I mentioned in my first post).

Disaster Transport is great but doesn't meet your time requirements (only 600ms I believe)

True that, but I love what I’ve heard so much I might well make an exception. Especially if I could score an SR.Jero wrote:Disaster Transport is great but doesn't meet your time requirements (only 600ms I believe)

I was thinking the same but it colors up a bit the repetitions when feedback gets longer if I remember right (still not dirty like the Rubberneck).Jero wrote:Disaster Transport is great but doesn't meet your time requirements (only 600ms I believe)

+1 every analog delay is going to have highly colored repeats at the delay times you're looking for by necessity of the analog design.Tom Von Kramm wrote:Errant Tiger wrote:1000 ms or more (800 might be OK), relatively clean repeats.

Would recommend a digital delay with a tone knob like the DD-20 you're curious about. Its analog mode sounds good, so you can get that kind of coloration if and when you want it,

Re: a different analog delay thread
Yeah, that's an increasingly intriguing option. I also remembered last night that I had a Flashback for awhile that I really dug, except that when the footswitch (it was a v1) broke it was a total shitshow to repair. I did get it fixed, though, and jettisoned it only because the Canyon's options seemed more enticing. So maybe I need to revisit that, or the DD-20...friendship wrote:

Re: a different analog delay thread
just get a digital delay that you can edit and be done with it all. if you want cheap, go the zoom ms50g route. if you want expensive, go the empress echosystem route. edit it to sound as lofi or hifi as you want, as much or little modulation, and every other parameter that you can think of. end of thread, end of quest, end of saga.
