Drolo Giant Hogweed will get you that exploding amp sound.

Zoom Ultra Fuzz. Just one example, you can use lower gain settings with the oscillation and gating set to have a jaggedness on the edge of note decays that sounds a bit like a microphonic tube.

Adventure Audio Dream Reaper does this pretty well I think. Especially since it interacts directly with your pickups in kind of a unique way.

Also Torns Peaker. I mean, come on meow.


Alternatively you can just play through a damaged speaker. I do that sometimes. It gets that crackling that's almost vinyl like and distorts when it shouldn't. Kind of neat. haha
