What is the Fate of Digitech/DOD pedals?

Post by Confuzzled »

Since Tom is no longer part of Digitech are they going to continue making pedals? Is this going to be cheap crap from china? Designed and built? Watching and waiting for prices to drop on existing stock but I wish they didn't make such a bonehead but I hope Toms new company makes them eat a serious pile of shit.

They were already made in China. Many of the top-tier pedals on the market are made in China. The expensive phone in your pocket and the laptop you're reading this forum on were made in China. Made in China isn't a bad thing for electronics.

Digitech/DOD is an extremely small portion of Samsung's business holdings and the IP for other products is what Samsung wanted. Its probably not worth their time to continue maintaining the brand much longer because even if it is profitable, its too small to earn any real focus. A new small pedal company isn't going to make one of the largest companies in the world regret anything.

Tom's company seems to be putting out a fuzz. The bigger question is who hired the whole R&D team and what that company will put on the market in the coming years. Chances are it won't resemble Digitech or DOD products because all the IP (patents, technologies, code, etc...) would still belong to Samsung.

Considering the rubberneck is being discounted almost 30% now, I’m thinking the future looks grim.

Harman survives. If Harman thinks it’s worth it to maintain a website and handle oem ordering and warranty for a handful of existing legacy products, they will. As they have for Lexicon. No r&d, no marketing presence, and probably eventually down to a few things beyond the Whammy V if we’re lucky. The whole question is how fast “eventually” is. If you’ve been waiting to get a more niche pedal, you probably should expect to grab it now or never. If the Obscura and Polara go away quickly, I doubt much else will stick around.
