Got into them via the Precambrian (which is probably my fave) record and have everything they've done since. I tend to like the concepts and riffage more than the vocals though. Still a band I listen to once in awhile.
This record is purposefully harkening back to their older stuff, since it fills in a period of time they skipped. I know some people were turned off by the proggy prettiness of Pelagial (heathens!), but from what I've read/heard I think this record will bring them back.

Thanks kids!
The Ocean in Atlanta was one of the best concerts I've been to. Everyone knew the lyrics to all of Pelagial and we were screaming along for the whole hour. Luic sprained my TMJ by kicking me in the face when crowd surfing. But I was so pumped that I didn't noticed how bad it was until I was driving back to Florida. He actually realized he did it and was apologizing profusely after the show.
I think I tell this story every time the Ocean comes up lol

Eating lunch at work and gonna give this band another shot. They tour with a lot of bands I enjoy. I just seem to have a hard time getting past the vocals.
Listened to all of Pelagial and I'm currently listening to Precambrian. It's good. Read a quick rundown of their rig while listening. MIDI/Light setup sounds, uh, lit?
I just listened to Pelagial and didn't like it as much as this new one. The clean vocals weren't for me and the whole thing felt a bit clean and modern prog-y.

Agreed 100%. It's strange because post-metal peeps seem to tout these guys as a front runner for the genre but the clean vocals and production screams modern prog-metal to me.
Not that it's bad, it's not, but I'm not catching the post metal love.
And yeah, vocals on that record are pretty unlikable.
