How'd They Do This - Radiohead Vocal Manipulation

Post by MannequinRaces »

In this YouTube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3h6K-elf0Y, are Thom's vocals being sampled and tweaked in real-time by a Kaoss Pad? It starts around 1:39. It can't tell if only a Kaoss Pad is being used or something else.

yeah its just a kaos pad, the k3 i think. peter murrphy used one while singing with nine inche nails(trent rez, atticus ross, jordie white) for a personal performance a while back here:

pretty cool processor.

Yes, in time with a kaoss pad going through Jonny's pedals. (I forget if Ed uses a koass pad on that song too...)

So let me get this straight. The Kaoss Pad can sample an input source on the fly and then you can access that sample to tweak it in real time? Can let's say a five second sample be chopped up into smaller samples within the Kaoss Pad? Thanks.

That video is recent concert footage and those effects weren't on the original recording. But if it was the KP1 I imagine the KP3 is quite a bit more advanced!

I though they used kaoss pads on the original. :?:

It's possible! I don't remember all those vocal manipulations going on in the original. Maybe I better go back and do that!!
