Mountain King Amp On Fire Big Muff

Post by ancientbones »

I’m seeking info on the Mountainking amp on fire muff. I know UG had one, but does anyone else?

Can someone enlighten me on what mods may have been done to this thing?! I recently acquired a beat up muff that I’d love to mod.

I actually did but I really doubt I’ll get any info. MK posted in May 2017 that they’re sitting on possibly reissuing the amp on fire, but after that there’s nothing.

They didn't make/mod a ton of them that I know of. I used one years ago on loan from MLC!...I vaguely remembering it sounding like a more synthy fucked up muff.
So basically, Alan Mountainking'd it :idk:

I believe the timeline is as such that the Amp on Fire basically became the Megalith. Not that they're 1:1 or anything but that the mods that made an Amp on Fire informed what became the production line megalith, which is a mega muff I'm pretty sure?

In other words, you might be able to be Ultra Mega OK if you looked at a megalith and sussed out the sort of mods you'd need to get close on a bog standard Muff.

Man y’all really don’t like Mountainking lol.

I’ll definitely see if I can find a megalith schem or something.

We actually have a 100+ page Mountainking thread that's been sorta dormant lately. :idk:

The Megalith is closer to a Fuzz Face than a Big Muff, circuit wise.

I don't think anyone here dislikes them...I used the first magnetar and behemoth proto (that I got direct from Alan) for years...along with a Frequency LSD, Huge Box II, etc  :p

and I suddenly wish I still had those. I played my bass a hell of a lot more back then.

There’s a megalith layout on tagboard effects’ blog. I have no idea how it compares to a big muff though. Me dumb.

From the description of the amp on fire there was some signal rerouting so it’s possible the megalith is just that rerouted version I guess?

The Megalith is not a muff. I built one and it's cool and all, but yeah it's over the top and punishes amps. It definitely sounds heavy AF.

Jero has pictures? Chappie likes it.

Oh, talk bass has the schematic for the Megalith which you can see with a Google search. The toggle adds another gain section it looks like.

But also there are only a small handful of Amp on Fires out there, which might explain the muted response. We dig MK as a forum overall, I believe.
