Your 1st custom pedal?

Post by comesect2.0 »

What was your first custom pedal? When? Do you still have it? If so, do you still use it? If not, what replaced it? Wax your nostalgia. :hello: :erm: :wha?:

I cant think of mine right now....in fact I dont think ive ever had like a specific pedal modified for my tastes, just drone noise synths.

a small-box version of the Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom. i still have it, but i don't use it very much because there isn't room for it on my pedalboard which already has 5 distortions/fuzzes.

I had a tuna melt, second pedal ever, rehoused by a guy on here. He added true bypass and an expression control for rate. Kinnnda wish I had that still.

If we're talking custom made/hand built/non-production...Creepy Fingers Rising Fuzz. Before he had logos on the pedals, only found out he made it because of being friends with Brad on Myspace or talking on a forum or something (maybe SR.com??). I didn't keep it very long, because it turns out is was pretty much identical to my Boss FZ-2 (which I got when they were still dirt cheap and also don't have anymore) and the moderator of a fuzz-centric forum sought me out and made me an offer on it, based on wanting to collect a specific serial number. If we're talking "hey, can you make me a pedal to these specs?" type stuff...Dunwich Cthulhu Deluxe Fuzz, which I do still have and is my go-to bass fuzz pedal. I got in early on the Cthulhu Fuzz, loved it, but did a lot of goofy stuff with it to try to make it more flexible (because it's one knob) and asked Nick if he could make me one with a bunch of controls and a blend on it. He did. It's great.

Yes, and cool. serial# hunting egh,crazy...have wanted to use a creepy finger.
Speaking of tuna melts I need a new tremolo..
Idk how to say this...but it be cool to have it work like that judder where it sounds like a rate knob on a synth then you have option for rate ratio or wtf is it called...auto 2 on the judder is what im saying..sounded sweet ..would love those two settings or more on a trem, anyone understand this and want to tell me what I'm talking about?

My first custom was a Fuzzhugger Chalice with something else. I just tried to find pics, but it's a no go. It was in 2011 I believe.

It was a really well made pedal. The crux of it and the reason it was never a production model, is that it was all NOS Japanese made parts for the circuit. At the time a close friend was just getting into making pedal and I had seen a lot of his progression, so I was able to appreciate how immaculate and well done the actual assembly of the pedal was (on vero board, I think). It sounded great, worth the money I paid, but it was during that early boom time for boutique pedals and heavy doom/stoner type music, so I flipped a lot of stuff at a tidy profit if it wasn't essential to my sound. I'm not into collecting and hunting for serial number ranges on gear at all. I tried not to take advantage of that stuff, always posted reasonable prices when flipping things, but if someone made me an offer...hell, I'm taking it.

Built myself - Silicon Skyripper. Still got it.

Built by others - Smoder Audio Proto Fuzz Drive. To my knowledge, the only one that exists. It's got more clipping and tone options that you're brain will ever want to deal with.

I believe my first custom pedal was I got to pick the vinyl cut, color, and led colors of a Sunny Day Delay.Definitely traded it away.

Second is probably my Effector 13 Super Tri Fuzz in which devi added the Karaoke Party circuit to. Which served its purpose and made it loud as heck. Still have it. It's a bit unwieldy in the bedroom but great when I can crank it at a rehearsal/jam space.

I have yet to fully design & commission a custom pedal from start to finish, but have come close on more than one occasion and surely will someday :snax:
also the HP, DMM, RRR & Resonator are the (only) 4 pedals I retain from the above photo :(
