MWFX Judder noise [UPDATE - True Bypassed, worth the hassle]
My MWFX Judder is pretty noisy if you have gain staging after the pedal which is usually how I run it. I don't really mind the noise when the pedal is on. The problem is the noise is constant because the pedal isn't true bypass so the increased noise floor just always means a lot of white noise cluttering up my otherwise very quiet idle signal. I've tried talking to MWFX about this and have gotten essentially halfway through the conversation about a fix before he stops responding. And Im not being a troublesome customer. He'll offer something like "I changed the impedance on some of them" and suggested the replacement resistors I would but then when I asked for a little more info about which parts to swap he goes silent. This has actually happened twice so I've given up on getting help from him. I went to disassemble the pedal to check the in/output impedance since that was the most obvious thing he might have been referencing but the amount of work to remove the board is rather over-the-top since you have to desolder the expression jack. Also seems like the board may have been glued into the enclosure because there was no movement at all even after everything was loosened. Now Im considering just true bypassing the circuit to see if that helps and it should be pretty simple since all the wires are just tacked to the back of the board anyway. Has anyone doe this to deal with the Judder noise? Or does everyone just put up with it?

Re: MWFX Judder noise - anyone converted to true bypass?
Might be easier to put it in a true bypass loop instead. At least test it and see if it helps.

Re: MWFX Judder noise - anyone converted to true bypass?
Im able to functionally test taking it out of the circuit by turning on my tuner after it so I know it will work that way. I don't have room for a bypass loop on my board which is why Im planning to just modify the pedal. Here is a clip to show how dramatic the noise is.neonblack wrote:Might be easier to put it in a true bypass loop instead. At least test it and see if it helps.

Re: MWFX Judder noise - anyone converted to true bypass?
Gonna check on this. My model might be slightly earlier than whoismarykelly's - I don't have the opening in the back for the trimpot that can be set to affect the modulation. I do run the Judder ahead of, albeit kinda light, gain into an amp: a Longsword set more as a cleanish boost, master volume-type thing to push the front end of an early 70s Ampeg amp into saturation. My pickup is kinda hot, too.
If the Judder's on it's usually serving a kinda noisy purpose so I haven't noticed something that bothered me yet.

Have never ran mine isolated. Definitely noisy, but I tend to use it in long mode (twss) with modulation so I just figured it was operator error.
Full disclosure: I daisy chain from a single wall wart so I don’t have the lowest noise floor going.

I don't have an opening in mine either. Mine is from the run right after Brexit. My issue is the noise that is persistent even if the pedal is 'off' because the pedal is never really off since that momentary switch can always bring in snippets of the effect. I could disassemble the pedal to assess how the bypass actually functions but from what I can tell its potentially a destructive process.taco satori wrote:Gonna check on this. Re: MWFX Judder noise - anyone converted to true bypass?
I got the solution brb, on toilet
..ok, so this was pissing me off as well but whoa ho ho when your not using the pedal, at least on mine...if you turn the lfo/env knob all way down
Turn mix knob down
Have auto switch in middle position
Have the lfo/env switch down on env
....the screaming stops.

Ah, I do seem to recall putting the Judder in the loop of a Fuzzhugger Upper and hearing the audible tick of the LFO, which was relieved by putting the LFO switch in center position. Can’t recall if they were powered isolated from each other or not. I also haven’t had a chance to listen to your demo clip to hear exactly what you’ve got going on, so apologies if I’m talking out of my butt. Will report back when I have the chance.whoismarykelly wrote:I don't have an opening in mine either. Mine is from the run right after Brexit. Oh yeah that’s really dramatic! Haven’t noticed that degree of noise while bypassed in my setup. I’ll try to see if I can recreate that.whoismarykelly wrote:

If you have an overdrive after it you will.

Do you have OD after your judder taco?

Re: MWFX Judder noise - anyone converted to true bypass?
I do! Granted it’s not set very high gain and is always on. I have the Judder earlier in the chain - after a buffered volume pedal and a Freeze. Then there’s a bunch of shit between the Judder and the Longsword at the very end of the chain.
