Recommend me the best gated Bass Fuzz
so lately I’ve been putting together a synth pedal set up(Synth Voice and Subdecay Prometheus). It has come to my attention I may need a gated fuzz. I already have a Spaceman Titan ll, a Wounded Paw Attack Goat, and a DAM Ezekiel. I’d like this to be a fantastic fuzz even when not using it as a synth effect. I had been considering the Broughton Bass Box or the Rocket Surgeon Seratone.
No price limit. Thanks a lot!!

My two favorites in this category were always Mountainking Magnetar and Copilot Orbit, but then I haven’t kept up on anything new in tha last two years! The TAFM is also great of course!

Zvex Woolly Mammoth/Mastotron is my favorite gated bass fuzz. Gets really clamped at extreme settings but can also be used as a regular ol' fuzz too. Plus they are easy to find and pretty cheap with so many people cloning them.
May not be able to handle octave pedals or filters before it though. The impedance knob on the Mastotron would probably help there.

It really is, Its like one minute your sound is small, and then its big! Crazy. Wouldn't know it by the name.D.o.S. wrote:TAFM is an awesome machine.
Nah, but in all seriousness I use the smallsound/bigsound TAFM and Buzzz on bass. TAFM for huge gated fuzzies and when I need to be quiet between notes. And the Buzz for more midrange and weird fuzz. I started using the Buzzz when my band was bringing back an old song I hadn't played before. On the recording he plugged his bass into a big muff and a Silvertone guitar amp, real synthetic and cold. Buzzz somehow nails that sound through my rig.

Not a huge gated fuzz fan, but do really dig the brassmaster. It's possible sounds are more diverse than I had anticipated, but the controls aren't very intuitive. I use it for all out, balls to the wall heaviness.

The Mountainking Frequency LSD is also awesome although I haven't tried many other gates fuzzes to compare it toDark Barn wrote:My two favorites in this category were always Mountainking Magnetar and Copilot Orbit, but then I haven’t kept up on anything new in tha last two years! If you can pick one up the Brown Dog by Chunk Systems is a sick fuzz. I used it for gated stuff in my previous band and had (but sadly lost) a recording where I ran my bass way hotter than usual and it sounded like a NES was trying to kill someone!
