Holiday sales & codes

XMAS2017 for -15%@ http://www.musictoyz.com

There's at least 6 of these left, if you haven't been in the BST forum recently.

Reverb is doing a 15/20% sale (it varies with dates, but the highest discount is automatically applied). Many online outlets will be mirroring these prices, if you can support builders/shops directly. Here's some of the confirmed holiday sales coming to Reverb.

Chase Bliss 15%
EQD 15%
Matthews 15%
Red Panda 20%
Walrus 20%

(and more)

There's a lot of plug-ins and iOS apps on sale during late November. I'll post some more shortly, but the Model 15 app by Moog is still $9.99.

If you're looking for a replacement to PGS, Rogue is likely your best option. I think they've done 20% off on several stompboxes over the past 2-3 years.

Coast Sonic and Perfect Circuit Audio are also good options for smaller/midsize builders and some synth products.

Here's some of the early, pre-Friday sales already underway. MF does individual codes for mailing list subscribers, which can 10-17%, depending on the season. It may be worth it to sign up for this week only. I'm not sure if this link will display for everyone, but Eventide, Elektron, Dreadbox, DOD, and several other companies are included in this 15% off sale.

MF/WWBW discount their open box stuff quite a lot and it's a good time to get EQD stuff. I think I got a Disaster Transport SR once for $197 ($349 list). Also, their phone reps are authorized to do unpublished discounts. I've gotten Korg and Yamaha products for 15% off before, just by asking for them over the phone. MF/WWBW is also an excellent place to do price-matching. They've matched liquidation offers that were way under list prices.

This sale is mostly guitars and a handful of used pedals.

Moog recently distributed a small batch MF-104M delays to US dealers and prices have varied quite a bit. (anywhere from 2012 prices of $679 to $1099) I think Sweetwater may have limited quantities of these on either Monday morning or Thanksgiving itself, but I don't have confirmation on that. Of course some shops keep these off eBay/Amazon/Reverb, in order to avoid additional fees.

Used prices on these were trending slightly downward over the past month. I've seen a few in the $750-850 range recently, that were clean with all the accessories.

still some on Amazon for $789. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing ... dition=new

Synth stuff---

Korg is expected to debut a new poly machine at Winter Namm in about 2 months. So if you only have the budget for one synth over the next 12 months, it may best to put off any big purchases until early next year.

There's been a few discussion threads recently for first-time synth buyers, so I'll retouch on some stuff. The JX-03 & JU-06 have both been discontinued. The JP-08 was the most powerful of these initial modules, and it's still available for $299 ($399 originally). The Reface DX is currently $299 at Sweetwater, so that's another one to check out, if you're looking for a rewarding synth on a budget. The SH-01A seems like a nice tool and it has 4 voices, but it seems like something with a limited expiration period. I feel it would become overlooked in a growing collection. That being said, it does appear to be more solid and roadworthy than the earlier Boutiques.

My top synth picks remain the OB-6, P~6, REV2, and Sub 37, if you're looking to acquire a more-advanced analog synth. The SE-02 seems to be capable of some modern and vintage Moog-inspired sounds, but the form factor and price puts some damper on that. There's a few analog synths being built in the UK & France now, but they're more expensive and harder to acquire. (Modulus & Baloran's River) It will be interesting to see what 2018 brings---the return of analog modeling synths, poly analog, or a heavy dose of modular, with less emphasis on keyboards.

Thanks for doing this. I thought about making one of these threads the other day but I made nachos and watched eyes of fire instead. Its my first year of secret satan and not being able to impulse buy a black friday pedal or two is bamboo under my fingernails. What are you thinking about picking up?

You're welcome. I'm thinking about a Catalinbread Adineko, a JP-08, and a Red Panda Context....but I was thinking about the same stuff last year and ended up with a Sub-37 and several other pedals instead (TC Electronic, Keeley, and a Mondegreen). My before-and-after pics of my holiday expectations versus my actual acquisitions is always different. I wish the Tensor was already available.

The Roland GO series is something I wanted to highlight for people looking for acoustic piano with FS keys. (Keys is red & has 500 sounds, the Go Piano is black with 40 sounds)

The red model is $300 and the Piano is $330 (some dealers include a sustain pedal). I think these would be good for beginners/intermediate keyboard users, as well as kids. I don't think you can find more realistic piano banks without spending a lot more. There's some decent stuff in the $500-700 range (Yamaha MX series, Roland JUNO-DS61). I like the Reface CP, too, (smaller keys) which has the electric CP80 bank (U2's "New Year's Day").

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/search?t ... =roland+go

pros: price, lightweight, portable, 1/4" combo out for amp/headphones, looping, adequate to good sounds

negative: MIDI over Bluetooth only, multiple banks will likely be neglected in the Keys model (new age strings, Euro electronica), some menu-diving will be required to access all of its features, not the most user-friendly display screen

The first 2:50 of this is pretty solid for showcasing the pianos, (Juno?) strings, organ, and EP.

This demo shows both units, including some clav, harpsichord, and cathedral organ settings.

The Ventris is in-stock at MusicToyz and the sale code does work. ($339 with XMAS2017)

Spoiler alert - we'll be doing some custom color and special versions for Black Friday, including some stuff that we haven't had available in a while They'll mostly be black texture editions, so if you're not into black then you might wanna check with our dealers who will be running a discount as well.

We'll also be running a sale over at Disaster Area Designs if you need MIDI controllers, loop switchers, MIDI cables, or solderless cable kits. We're not discounting the new DMC.micro or micro.clock but we will be offering the custom finishes on those at no charge.

I absolutely HATED these because of the super low profile keys. But for some folks they might be the perfect entry point.

Used or new? I've seen a $300 markdown at VK, Alto Music, and Sweetwater. At VK, it says they're honoring this price through the end of the year.
