Gear Moving?

Post by Nychthemeron »

As an incoming college student, I'm just wondering about how to ship/bring my guitar across the country. I've got a feeling that I could bring my guitar onto the plane even though it's in the HSC, but I have no idea about the Blues Jr. You guys probably know all about sending stuff around considering the massive trade list here, but I'm a newbie to all that stuff and would like to learn (perhaps finally put something up for trade in the future).
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

ok, this is the obvious choice, but I would ship everything UPS. you can track it, insure it, whatever.

I know bands fly with instruments all the time, but I've heard just enough airline horror stories that I probably wouldn't risk it if I could wait a couple of days for UPS to get to me.

I've heard that UPS has broken quite a bit of other's gear, insured or not. I think I can take the guitar onboard with me on the flight (hopefully southwest will be good with that), but I'm not sure how I should ship the amp. Any suggestions about how I should set up boxes and such?

i would take the tubes out and protect the speaker cone maybe? im shipping my crap over seas soonand i dont even want to think about what it will look like on the othe side.im thinking about going to a guitar center and asking if they have any boxes (specifically for my amp) that are about to be tossed .but then again that would mean i'd have to go to guitar center.. :grumpy:

If you're going to be making the trip back and forth often and you really care about your amp, it may be worth investing in one of those ATA flight cases. Yeah, they're expensive, but they're made to keep you're amp safe on an airplane.
