Room for one pedal, but which one??

Post by PeteeBee »

I'm putting together my board like I do way too often, and I have room for one more pedal. Looking for something different than what I have going on that will compliment nicely. Just looking for suggestions because I'm bored, can't play at the moment and am super happy with all this stuff for covering the things I want it all to do.

Chain is:
tuner (polytune)
Compressor (WA deep six)
Chorus (WA Julia)
Dirt (dirge even anguish ((still in the mail)))
Dirt (ssbs mini)
Delay (in limbo iii)
Reverb (meteore)
Reverb/trem (mr black deluxe plus)

I have a couple rad pedals that could fill the spot, but I'd rather get something different, rather than add another duplicate from a category already covered. Looking for maybe a modulation that's real different from the Julia? Or something else? Idk. I play lots of types of music, most of which could easily make it on KEXP some day if it were better haha

How do people get by without flanger/filter/phaser?

:idk: If you have a solid filter and delay with plenty of range and good LFO's, you don't need multiple pedals for that.

You mean doing phaser with the filter and flange with the delay?

I feel like I would want an octave, ring mod, or a DD series delay in a set up like that.

Actually... a Bitquest, you need one.

Basically, yeah.
If I had the cash I'd definitely go for synth-esque pedals. One delay/filter/reverb,etc. with a shit-ton of options to make for a fairly small but powerful board.

You can emulate said effects, but it won't be the same as dedicated ones. Flange might be passable, but not phasing. Dunno, I like phasers man. Also env. filters. Was thinking octave too.

Another delay so you can have two on at different (or same) times and layer that shit up.

Ha that's awesome. I had been considering either a ring mod, wizard of pitch, or a bitquest. Problem is I've already had the wiz and the bit. Wiz I kind of miss, bitquest I don't. Idk why but I just didn't really like it. Right now I'm leaning most at either a Randy's revenge or a wizard of pitch.

Ooh wizard of pitch would be real sweet in that set up

Some that come to mind:

CBA Spectre or Wombtone

Or, something in this family:
MASF Raptio or Possessed
Malekko Charlie Foxtrot
MWFX Judder
DRolo Stammen
Hexe Revolver

These pedals can add texture galore.

Matthews Chemist (vibrato, chorus, octave, phaser) - has 2 channels, so you could switch on the fly
Subdecay Starlight MKII - cop vintage & modern flanging, also can do phaser/tremolo types of sounds
A/DA PBF Flanger - unique sounds, small footprint, good range
Alexander F.13 - sci-fi textures, eclectic modulation options with Mix & Depth pots for managing or maxing the weirdness
Fairfield Shallow Water - good for creating movement, that plays off your delays and other modulation like the Julia

Fine, thanks for asking. :p

I second getting a BitQuest again. It will allow you to try lots of good sounding effects in different parts of your chain. See what works for ya!
