So I've never really been happy with soundcloud or bandcamp...are there any alternatives you're using?
I recently remastered my album but have been holding off putting it anywhere other than my normal approach of sneaking tapes on various thrift shop shelves, which I mean I love, but really does nothing obviously.
I've finally got enough artists together to start a small casette label that we can have a little site for and what not, to have a centralized hub for our stuff. I just have no clue what Web based platform is with it right now.
not that I had tons of albums to put there and/or could brag about the riches i made
but as an online record-store I think it is probably the best one?
Love bandcamp
I mean bandcamp is fine for being an online merch table, just not ideAl for discovery. More of a linkable resource.
Mainly curious if there are any worthwhile places to find potential collaborations etc. Soundcloud could have evolved into something like that but just sort of stifled. Splice's user base is mainly people stuck on sample loops and libraries
What does bandcamp do for you guys that couldn't be done by just hosting your own website with vendor page?
sometimes you can get lucky sharing stuff on reddit, but you'll probably have better luck if you have some sort of video component to extend the chance of catching people with shorter attention spans. but i think that depends on your genre, as some genre specific subreddits are far more active than others.
youtube is a big one.. most people i know just do a quick youtube search when they hear about something new. find channels that put out content of your specific genre and shoot them emails. if they have a decent amount of subscribers you should see some hits from that.
I still cling desperately to the rotting branches of last.fm as they break away and melt into the mulch at the bottom. Bandcamp is pretty good though, it is definitely a lot easier to dismiss artists on bandcamp though, which I'm definitely guilty of.

it breaks my heart to think what last.fm could of been. is that web that branches further and further out from one band still a thing? i think it was done using last.fm's data at a different url.
When you buy stuff on Bandcamp, does it allow you to download the songs on multiple devices, like your phone and computer? Or is it just a 1 time download?

The former, not the later. Make an account and you can sign in anywhere to stream albums/songs you bought.

Sorry, reading comprehension on my end. I can answer this question shortly.

Looks like the inverse of my previous answer. I can download multiple times (wav, then MP3) on my laptop but not on my phone or iPad. Lame.

I subscribe to Apple Music. It will make suggestions based on listening habits so sometimes I follow those. I also just like at similar artists when I'm browsing. I use an aggregate of different websites to find other stuff.

It does still have that, and it seems to be the same as it used to be, just everything else isn't. The forums were pretty good there, and lists etc. RYM is growing a lot though and they've been working on their version of a scrobbler for a while now, I expect when that comes out it'll be the nail in the coffin of last.fm.
