Why did you quit the DrumBrute?

Seems like a lot of you guys quickly flipped yours. Why? It looks like it has a lot to offer, for the money. I'm thinking about getting one, or waiting for the Digitakt, or maybe an Octapad...

flipped mine cuz I flipped all the synths I planned to use it with. also behndy'd..fwiw, it's the easiest/funnest/best sounding drum machine I've tried and I've gone through a bunch. would definitely like to have one again later in the year

I have one too and have held onto it. That said, I've definitely debated selling it.

The funny thing is that this is my first proper analog drum machine, and it's oddly made me crave the versatility of samples. I think I was expecting it to be my go-to for the majority of drum sounds, but honestly for a lot of ideas I have, using samples fits the bill much better.

BUT, not selling it, definitely keeping it for the time being. I don't want to make any rash decisions, and besides—nothing is going to be the be-all end-all, rather part of a combination of multiple sound creation routes.

It's VERY easy to use, super intuitive, highly tweakable. The drum sounds are great on their own, but really thrive with effects, especially the usual suspects: drive / reverb / delay. I think a RYTM would probably be my most ideal thing, but the Drumbrute's absolutely nothing to whine about at 1/3 of the price.

I dig mine a lot. I miss my Machinedrum but i didn't want to take the time to learn it properly. I wanted simplicity and this gave that to me. I like analog drums but i wouldn't want it if i weren't going to process them in some other way. Since it has outs for each piece of the kit i can run different pieces through different pedals. I haven't done a whole lot with it yet and haven't done that specifically yet but i have run the Brute through other processing and I think it sounds great. YMMV.

In both these clips it's going through Thermionic Culture Vulture > Hawk Stereo Tape Delay > RM-1N > Electronaut M63 preamp and then some compression through plug-ins.

Yeah, I actually prefer samples, too. I had an OP-1, which I loved. And, I always said it covered all my needs, in that area. But, like Ruiner with the Machinedrum, I didn't feel like I was going deep enough with it. I've always lusted for Elektron gear. Particularly, the Octatrack. But, now I fear I'd find myself in the same place. I decided to strip back. I got the microGranny, that I'm having a blast with. Now, I just need something with a decent sequencer to trigger and play along with it. I love the individual outs on the DrumBrute, too. That's a big letdown with the Digitakt. Although, Digitakt would do higher quality samples...

Haven't used one with the Microgranny, but the Beatstep Pro is really fun / easy to use. Awesome little piece of gear.

Not flipping mine anytime soon. This is pretty important to my future music. Great sound and easy to use. So Intuitive that I didn't even touch the manual for a week, only to read about two things I couldn't figure out on my own. I've owned several drum machines (MRT-3, ER-1, TR707) but this is the best for me.

yurp. i quit the DBrutals because the Beatstep Pro is the EXACT same sequencer, and i just work better with engines and patterns inside a computer.

but the DrummBrutz is so. damn. gooooooood.

Cool. It's good to see it wasn't really a "hated it" issue. I think I'm gonna wait and see what the Digitakt is up to. It sure would be nice to have MIDI sequencing.

lol. i am SO going to grab the Malekko Dirt Butt Drums when it's availabe. i don't really need an external drum machine, but that thing sooooooo damn meow.

Yeah, it looks pretty cool. I like the MFB twins a lot, too. But, my better half ain't feelin' those.
