About a year ago, I purchased an ugly neon green spray-painted VTM120 head from guitar center for $150. I wanted to try to get the tolex on the shell back to it's original color, so I tried using different spray remover products. Nothing that I used worked. After getting frustrated, I spray painted over the green a semi-gloss black finish. It now looks in my opinion worse than the green. I have since tried sanding down the spray, but that isn't working either.
I'm not confident in my tolex skills, so I would rather not attempt to put new tolex on myself. Does anyone have any experience in getting spray paint off tolex? Are there any places that custom make new shells?
Thanks!

I bet ShaolinLambKiller/Mauler Cabs would make you a VTM shell.

Actually I think Jared mentioned he didn't want to do headshells any more. Pain in the ass, I think was the reasoning.D.o.S. wrote:I bet ShaolinLambKiller/Mauler Cabs would make you a VTM shell.
It's hideous mdf under the Tolex. The head fits the shell of a 5150, butcher, and ultra models as well as the supreme solid state head if you can find those cheap.

Acetone, and if that doesn't work try some brake cleaner from automotive stores. Do it outside, brake cleaner is nasty shit. Test either on a small spot first. (...although Peavey tolex is nuclear war proof shit)
If you ever rethink wanting to take on retolexing, Uncle Doug has a really great video on how to do it, its easier than it seems to get a pretty professional finish with some patience.
