TC Prophet delay

Post by echorec »

I feel like this one needs its own thread, since it's shockingly weird for $50. Beginning just after 1:15, you can hear the extended continuation it does when you adjust the pots. For a pedal that's not marketed as a SOS device, that might be its greatest strength. It sounds more like a $200 boutique glitch or freeze pedal than a mass-produced budget pedal (maybe even a poor man's Particle).

The stuff that's happening around 4:24 is much more user-friendly than anything I got out of the Csidman, which couldn't simulate CD-skipping without introducing sharp bursts of gain. To me the Csidman was much better as a moderate noise device than a time effect (and even then it needed to be boosted by a secondary gain device for anything really intense). I've never used the MASF Raptio or the MWFX Judder, which I think are likely better for someone looking for harsher sounds.

All in all, I think the Prophet seems like an insanely fun pedal for the price---especially for loopers and tabletop users.

that was pretty radical. the secret track bit at the end was definitely coping some cool stuff.

at $50 it may be wort buying/reshousing/modding it to have expression pedal capabilities or whatever. could be hard because i'm sure they're mass produced and whatever but who knows.

A)Doesn't sound anything like the Raptio to me.

B)If you need something to do that (as in "that was a really nice sound" above) it's a steal. That said, I don't know if that particular trick is worth $50, particularly when it seems like a serious one-trick pony.

C) to elaborate, the interesting thing (for me, obviously) about glitch, freeze, granular, whatever is what you do with the sound once it's starting to get warped. This doesn't seem to do that: it just adds a bunch of glitchy shit behind the clean signal that's coming in. This is (IME) markedly less useful.

Rad. Super rad. Especially at that price point. I figured that new line of Behringer/TC pedals would be pretty vanilla, and this clearly isn't. But yeah, one trick pony.
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

Not that this is particularly on topic, since the main appeal of this is obviously the price point, but the DD-500 can do this sort of thing and I really wish I could do a quick shootout with the Raptio I no longer have to illustrate the difference.

The mod on that would be to replace the switch with a footswitch (or try an expression or pot to go beyond those fixed intervals).

Pretty sure the RV-3 delay settings can do this to a certain extent as well.

Yea, can get all that and then some with the rack delays, but...

For $50 and for folks who don't have 20 years of toys!
