Greg Edwards' SG - what is the silver covering?

I can't tell but it doesn't look like the body of his SG is painted, it looks like covering of some sorts. Is it like a heavier than aluminum foil tape or something?

You can buy it at menards and other home improvement stores. I think it is used for duct work.

Almost looks like silver leaf sheets (but that would be a total nightmare to apply, probably) & I'm sure the wear of too many gigs is what makes the aluminum foil tape wear that way, since it's pretty thin as it is

Also, if it's a cheaper brand/gauge (i.e. softer), it won't be as shiny & will wear as easily as that SG has been worn down in certain places, so.....

Duct tape. Maybe the aluminum foil tape Dan mentioned.
Eugene has the same on his and they (or at least Greg) wrap their pedals in electrical tape.

That's chrome or aluminum tape for sure. You can tell by now neat and solid the lines are where the pieces overlap. You can also see where it's peeled back a bit exposing the underside with the adhesive down by the jack,
