my broken ass first guitar
This weekend I'm ruthlessly throwing out/getting rid of a lot my shit that's been cluttering up, and this includes broken gear I don't use. One of these broken things is the first guitar I owned, a weird Strat copy. The screw holes for the neck are heavily stripped, no amount of stuffing toothpicks in there to shim the space has worked in the past. The body's neck cavity is a weird measurement, so I can't slap a Warmoth on there or something. Actually the body isn't a full sized Strat, it's something a little smaller but not 3/4.
Should I just give it away for someone to strip for parts? I know it's sentimental but it's been broken for at least a decade. I've sold things more sentimental to me with no regrets.

Do you own a drill? fixing stripped neck bolt holes takes like 5 minutes.

Sadly I do not. But in the event that I can get my hands on one, how does one do that?

You drill out the holes with a slightly bigger diameter bit than the hole so all the treads are gone, then you get a dowel the same size as the hole you drilled and glue them in, then you just drill new holes and reattach the neck

you can totally do this with a hand drill if you have a steady hand

You want it a bit larger that whatever is the the over all outside measurement of the neck screw [out side of the threads] so that you aren't screwing into glue, also dowels only come in certain sizes so 3/16" or 1/4"
p.s. YOU DON"T WANT THE BIT/SCREW TO PENETRATE INTO THE FINGERBOARD IT CAN FUCK UP SO MUCH STUFF.
So if you used new screw make sure they are not too long, many many guitars don't fit fender [meaning all aftermarket neck bolts] neck bolts and you have to cut them down a bit.

Re: my broken ass first guitar
So while trying to source out a drill to borrow, I kept doing more research and found something interesting. The pocket width on the guitar body is 2 1/8", and since Warmoth's site says their standard fit is 2 3/16", I figured it wouldn't work. But I found this thread:
http://www.tdpri.com/threads/neck-heel-size.318690/
Which if you don't feel like reading basically explains that there is some width variance up to 1/8" of an inch. The other dimensions on my guitar body match Warmoth's: 3" long, 5/8" deep. Could I get a Warmoth neck for this and either sand or shim whatever discrepancy there may be in the fit, or is that Totally Fucked Up and Not Okay To Do?

Warmoths ONLY fit current MIA fenders… you have to enlarge or shim the neck pocket on almost everything else… ebay has always been awash with bodies that have messed up neck pockets due to people trying to fit their over large ass necks in smaller holes and people that could not RESIST THE URGE TO USE A FUCKING DREMELfriendship wrote:So while trying to source out a drill to borrow, I kept doing more research and found something interesting. Don't use a dremel to fit a neck.. it is not the right tool… a block with sand paper or a file or a nice SHARP chisel is - friendship

Good, because I don't have a dremel either!
