Is my Velcrobot working properly?

So I looked up the Musictoyz demo of the Velcrobot on YouTube today and it starts out with the Gate control at about 10 o'clock. My Velcrobot, on the other hand, is almost completely silent until you get past noon on the Gate control regardless of how the other knobs (and toggle) are set. I tried different cables and whatnot and my Velcrobot still acts the same. Is this normal? Or is my Velcrobot not working right?

Sounds normal to me. Start with the gate on full clockwise then wind it back gradually.
