Looking for hex fuzz pedal recommendation

Post by Jim Wylde »

Hello all. First time post. Just got into the group. I put stuff out under the name sp3ct3rs for the most part. Current gear list is small but...

pedals:
EHX Cathedral Reverb
EHX Deluxe Memory Boy
OTO Biscuit
Danelectro Dan-Echo

Instruments:
Casio 61-Key Electric Keyboard
Yamaha PC-1000
Korg EPS-1
Sonata Acoustic
Fender Squire
Korg SQ-1
Arturia MicroBrute

Anyway am looking for my first fuzz pedal and have tried a few out, but not yet found exactly what i am looking for until i heard this (in the first minute or so of the video)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jodhm5mvvqE

Now, i know where i can buy this for around $500 but am looking for a hex/poly fuzz in a more affordable price range.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and nice to meet you all.

PS. Ugly Nora sent me.

Welcome & good question/1st post on fuzz ya dont hear about everyday.
I'm also curious about a potential hex fuzz solution without adding pickups :snax:

Can get very, very close with a VG-99 or GR-55 but that'll still require a hex pickup.

I could probably fake it pretty close with some parallel processing as well - chorus on a relatively clean guitar mixed with the right level of grainy OD without chorus would get there.

Not likely. A lot of the hex fuzz thing on the old Rolands is the relative clarity - that's why I suggest parallel processing.

I'll give you this, it did make me pull out the GR55 and muck around with the GR300 emulator for an hour. :)

That's a really cool sound. This would probably fairly different as far as processing goes, but the EQD Pitch Bay is the first thing that came to mind. If you keep the up and down pitch shifting to octaves or fifths mixed fairly low, then up the gain, you might be able to approximate that sound.

Listen to the first two settings in this video and imagine the pitch shifting being quieter than the dry.
